I saw that and mean nothing against you. I was just throwing out an option. It is what he does as an audio engineer. If you have the time and want to cool by me. Cubase is an excellent system.

Ok, I saw a post somewhere about setting up a 3 or 4 min click at 100Bpm.this is cool. I can set up my digitech to 100Bpm and select a bunch of different drum loops. Me and the Click dont get along very well, but Ill do my best and Ill get my buddy down the street to keep me streight. He lives by the click! LOLOL (no Dis intended at him at all) Here is a link for anyone who needs a metronome http://www.webmetronome.com/ Pretty nice for free and downloable. I like the accent note being able to change as I always seem to miss the 1!!! Could anyone tell me some songs we know that are set at 100bpm so I can get my head wrapped around it better? THANKS!

Scott, just go to Youtube and type 100 bpm in the search. You'll come up with all kinds of stuff to wrap your head around!

just to clarify, 100bpm was an example. I set it to whatever the song calls for. As long as the track is what we're all recording to, the mix will work

Being that I'm a bass player yall get the guitar tracks and the drum stuff together and send it to me. I'll lay some bass down for ya.

I have a couple of bass wave files from some songs I was working on for a band that broke up. I never gave them the songs........they never paid me either. Even Steven I guess. Anyway the bass work is realy cool stuff if ya want to give it a listen.

Sorry to be a little late on this bandwagon... was away for a while. There was a collaboration just like this on vdrum.com. There are a couple of threads about it and how it was made.... if you don't mind going through 100's of post pages!! Basically, what they did is record a bass line with a click track. That bass line is available to all. Anybody can just record and extra track... doesn't need to be the whole song, it could only be a riff, or the chorus, etc... The click track is really needed because if people just submit wav or mp3 files at different tempo, it is impossible to join them and make any sense about them. All tracks are then submitted to the master editor who selects the tracks and put it all up in one video or mp3 for youtube or anywhere else. Check out the second vdrums collaboration here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IGVq8VBvSIThere is also a band called the iGenesis, musicians from around the world playing Genesis songs, and they are amazing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1QaE-w73iBoFor sharing mp3s, I suggest soundcloud.com. Very easy to use and great for musicians to share their mp3s.

Thanks, Jeff for chiming in and providing your ideas and links. First and foremost, you are right... the click track is the most important aspect of this project. I was playing around in the studio today seeing what I could come up with and I think for starters a simple 3 or 4 chord pattern (or maybe even just 1 chord... I always did like the memorizing effect of one chord playing). A melody could be introduced from the get go so harmonized instrumentation and vocals could be introduced as the piece evolves. One of us (and again I don't mind volunteering) could come up with the basic structure and the rest could embellish to their heart's content. Slowly we are building ideas here and I'm still working out logistics in my mind. I love the 'Playing for change' collaborations found on Youtube and although I don't expect to match those works for excellence, I'd sure like to try! Here's some examples of great, GREAT collabs done around the world! One love Stand by Me Imagine

Another option I was thinking of....What if I set up a click track
I totally agree. There has got to be something in the primary track to keep us all in sync. I thought about the drumstick count that drummers always start the band with but a click track at the start of our primary track would work great. Also, wav files are larger but are the highest quality.
I always start with wav files and after whatever mix or effects I do then convert to MP3 for size.
I play down home Mississippi blues on my electric guitar and southern gospel or bluegrass on my flat top and banjo. Guys I'm versatile.
I always thought that Triumph song/video theme about doing it your own way that the factory sent out back around 07 totally sucked. I mean, I like the do it your own way part, just their idea of how it should be presented. We should do that OUR own way for a BA.com theme song. But once we get this thing kicked off, don't stop with just one tune, lets do a whole project! Originals, covers, whatever! All genre.
I remember the first concert I ever went to. It was Foghat in Mobile Alabama, 1977. Dicky Betts opened with a big guitar sound that totally blew me away. Two drummers/sets, two bassists, 4 or 5 guitars and everything in perfect sync... Foghat was good too!
I'm diggin' this whole concept. BTW, I've got my lava lamp!

Groovy Baby! Yeah!!! Hey, I just installed Audacity and tweaked an old rhythm track I had and its a breeze. Should be a very shallow learning curve for those who might be a little weak on computer skills. And..... it will also generate a click track. I'll tick around with it some more tomorrow after I get home from my day. Been doin a lot of practicing lately. I guess this is what for! On another note, one of my co-workers 8 year old son has been learning to play guitar. Several of us at the college where I work have been showing him some chords and last Sunday at church and today in chapel he backed up his sister on a song. It was just 3 chords but he did okay for just having started a couple months ago, and already he's hooked on getting in front of the people. He is so excited about learning to play music. It is great to see!

I was messing around with my stuff tonight/ this morning, I put on a drum loop and came up with some rhythm stuff,,, but I don't know if i was actually in time. Tried to practice to the metronome on the RP set at 4/4 and 90Bpm. It just baffles me. So I really need to hear a track with a basic rhythm and let me know your chord progressions.
Ill load it up in my audacity and see what I can do,

great ideas and great sites. Agreed the click track should likley be first, we do something in 4/4 time keep it simpple then lay down the others, then when done go back to the drums and lay down another track with either rolls or added symbols etc, pretty tough to do that at first of course until we know how the song will go. I don't have much for digital recording but i have a buddy who will sell me a tascam 8 track 2gig card for about 150 bucks, all this talk about this stuff has re-peaked my desire to get something down. so that should help me contribute, apparently it will also burn cd's and open and save as .wave etc etc. i think its this one. http://www.gearwire.com/media/Tascam-DP-03Opener.jpg

Ed really b4 spending the $$ try out audacity on your puter. You just run right into the sound card or you can mike it. If its not your thing, then hit up the tascam. (it does look like a cool toy though! )

Mike... Scott's idea of running audacity is a good one. If you want a better interface however, Tascam is a good way to go. In one of those pictures I posted you can see my input mixer sitting on the desk. It's a Tascam FW-1082. Also folks... if you want to buy some inexpensive yet GREAT recording software, have a look at Mixcraft from http://www.acoustica.com/mixcraft/index.htm It comes with thousands of loops and a host of great functions for $75. Next to audacity (which is free) this is the cheapest on the market that I know of. Don't let the price fool you... this is some VERY CAPABLE software!

Okay, after seeing Keith's setup, we've got to plan the great Canadian Triumph Rally so we all meet up at Keith's house for some live Jammin! I won't need to bring my ax cause he's got everything, even the lava lamp. And since winter will have us snowed in, Keith will have to put us all up for the winter! Who knows what great works we'll produce! So Keith, how's your stores? Got plenty to eat?

wav files will always be much bigger than mp3s.
Again, sharing can be done via SoundCloud.com, or DropBox. We could setup a folder just for the "triumphberries"!
DropBox might be a good idea since it will keep all the files in one place and easy access.

Hey Scott! I did check out dropbox and soundcloud to a certain degree. Dropbox requires the download and installation of some sort of software. Soundcloud seems to be a site more for musicians to meet musicians. So now I'm off to checking out sites such as myonlineband.com to see how that might serve us. Safe to say I'm busily trying to find a way to make this project happen WITHOUT having to set up paid memberships. Still working on it... started a thread over at chordie.com on the topic, just to see.
We'll get this sorted out. Meanwhile I'm also working (quite hard actually) on making up a groove we can all get started with. I think I might have something... nothing recorded yet but that's just around the corner I figure.

http://www.kompoz.com/compose-collaborate/home.music
Just at a quick glance it looks like it has all the tools we need to collaborate on a project but its really not free if we want to limit colaboration to our group.
However, it looks good and the cost is minimal. I like it and am willing to work with it if the group wants to use it. It looks like it would be fun even at the basic membership level.

ok ill give 5 bucks,,, but I am at a Loss as to how to work the thing.,,,I kind of like the idea of drop box and send it all to you and it gets done with that very nice equipment you showed us and you can then drop it back in a box. but I will try to play with this. It seems like its geared for Ipads music apps, but its neat! So ill try to learn something new. I defiantly don't want a public project. Do you get to list your members for your project? Do we all have to pay to get on the private list? Its 3:30 AM so I have not dug too deep in there. Was gonna do some TLC to the 12 string and the SG. So then I would just have to do my Sons stuff too. TALK ABOUT AN ALL DAY PROJECT! re-stringing the 12 takes forever and tuning it and playing it in! fun but time consuming. add 3 electrics and I'm out of strings for the Kaman. HEY THANKS GUYS NOW I HAVE A REASON TO DO ALL THE UPKEEP! no really

Hey Mike, take a look at the boss 8-track before deciding on that tascam. You can get a used one for around the same price and its definately a better product. Ive had Boss 4,8,16 tracks through the years and miss the onboard effects package and drum rhythms that come with them now that I have a Korg 32-track. This is what it looks like. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BOSS-BR-864-8-Tr...=item20bef3c03bThe guitar modeling effects are so easy to use and sound very authentic.

yes i was looking at those, as well as some of the zoom products. I like the idea of on board drum machines and vocal and gutitar effects. The board i have is way to big for daily play and recording its a beast so i was looking for something i could place near me in the TV room etc for when the mood strikes. Also, the on line mixing stuff i looked at has some neat features but using the on-board sound cards and mic etc kind of sucks, also makes recordning more then one track prtettty tough as well.

Keith, DropBox installs some very unobtrusive stuff, like a shared folder you can put stuff in and out and it gets on the cloud without any hassle. The thing is that with DropBox, you can assign a special folder and give access to ba.com members only and they can send the music files in, you just fire up your computer to find them in that shared folder... easy!
The best thing is that you get a few gigs of space for free. People can access the same folder via PCs, Macs, Linux boxes, iPads and iPhones, etc....
You have to try it to see that it really works. I used to get special services to send me files that were too big when I was designing a printed magazine and a website, now with DropBox, it is a breeze.

Well dang-diddle-dee-darn! I was really hoping to have something for you guys today but I can't get dropbox set up on my studio computer. For some reason during the setup, it doesn't recognize my internet connection.
This has happened before using other applications. My studio computer is connected through a wireless connection to a router. Now, my other computer has no difficulties, but it's hard-wired into the router. So something about this wireless connection makes some applications think there is no internet connection. Poop!
I might have to copy new files to a memory stick, get on my other computer and do the dropbox thing from there. Yeah, that should work!
I'm trying guys, I'm trying.
Live to love, love to live.

I am not sure, but my guess is that your router is closing some of the ports that your computer needs to connect to the outside. Sounds like a firewall issue.
Although, looking at the info on the net, it seems that DropBox uses the same ports as your web browser. So, if your browser works well, DropBox should too.
Comes down to the settings in your wireless box. Or maybe the strenght of the signal? If your computer is too far from your wireless router, the info takes too long to get there and you computer quits looking for it.
