so, the 06 TBA is going in soon for the big bore, oil cooler, air box removal, hard bags, chrome EVERYTHING treatment. at the same time i am considering going the opposite route with a second bike. i am considering 'murdering out, black out, outlaw' whatever you want to call completely making everything on the bike black either a used speedmaster OR a new storm...so what is the consensus? smart@$$ comments welcome.

Everyone is going black now, sort of a fad like "rat-rods" (I hate that term) I like the blacked out look, but when it's a factory tough guy look option, it kind of makes it uncool. I'm not talking about the Speedmaster here in particular, but look at all the bike manufacturers and see how many different blacked out bikes there are Now, take a bike that has some chrome or some grey or other paint and black it out yourself, that's a different story. Just my opinion, but the 'satin finish' look is just another trend
Always remember to be yourself. Unless you suck. Then pretend to be someone else.

noted the trendiness; but heck i have the prettiest TBA, so i may as well make a plain jane one . what i am really looking for is which direction to go in in terms of the bike itself. SM or Storm?

I like the blacked out look and agree that when it is done by the factory it is kind of uncool.I don't include the SM since that wasn't totally blacked out ,just the engine cases and peg hangers.
I don't think blacked out is anything new or a fad just a variation of the 60s when bikes got painted all one color. Like my chopper is all red including the frame. I had a chrome springer on it and chrome oil tank and the engine was totally polished out including carb and intake.People used include that stuff in the paint job. Usually painted the jugs to match, gave it a really cool look.

I can make a case for both, having nothing to do with color.
1. Spare parts. If you have a Speedmaster for a second bike you can pull parts to test things (especially electronics) between bikes.
2. Viva la difference! Why have two of what is essentially the same bike when you can have two very different riding experiences? I have two identical bikes. They're both great but they seem kinda redundant (ESPECIALLY now that I have the Rocket as a third bike). I've pilfered a lot of accessories off one to go on the other, but I haven't really pulled any hard parts off of the 'spare' bike. It runs so good I don't want to mess with it, even if it means fixing the other one quicker. I'm thinking in a year or so of selling/trading Reboot for a Scrambler for some backroads explorating.

Love my TBA. But man that storm is sweet! I was thinking if I could afford one, I would put satin gold highlihts on it. Like the eye brow type paint and a classic Triumph paint job for the logo instead of the plastic ugly round thing they have now.

If you are keepin the speedie then get a storm. Oh, and flat black do it yourself with rattle cans.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

Seems a shame to paint a new bike flatt black out of a rattle can. Just my opinion. I like the idea of buying an early (2001) Bonnie and fitting toureg tyres and kind of modifying it Scrambler style but paint it army green ... A poor man's Steve McQueen special. Oldenise it and take to the back roads with confidence of reliability.

If I was getting a second bike it wouldn't be another one of what i already have. Go for a different experience, and although a black Speedmaster is the fastest of the Speedmaster/BA family, it's still essentially the same bike.
Go for the 'Bird storm or a RIII Roadster if you want to stay with Triumph.
And, being an unapologetic chromophobe, I really like the murdered out look.
