Well I don't know exactly how to say this but, I sold the speedy on Sunday before Halloween. Right now, I'm past the stage of denial and starting to feel acceptance. Anyhow, many of you know I've been on a serious quest to get a Rocket 3 Touring and I've stated I was going to keep both bikes for various reasons. I actually really wanted to keep my beloved beauty that I have loved so much but the more I thought about it, the more it didn't make sense for the position of life I'm in. I wouldn't have been able to comfortably afford to keep both bikes on the road at the same time and even if I could, the speedy would have to go in and out through the basement which would have been very inconvenient and a deterent. I'm sad she's gone, but I think this was the right way to go for me. I sold her for kbb retail value and got what I bought her for so all in all, I'm happy with that. It sucks not having a ride right now and the weather has been awesome lately making it even harder. Anyway, I'm not leaving and will continue to check in with some regularity. I'm very anxious and can't wait to....ahem...upgrade....ahem...to the r3t. Just kidding guys, yes, I'm an arse. Anyhow, none of dealers in St. Louis have any right now and I'm also looking at Classifieds but I want 09 and above. Really having a hard time finding one that is convenient to purchase. I'd like to find one within 600 miles or so because I'd like to see what I'm buying in person. Well, that's the news and I'm sure I'll miss my beloved speedy...just hope I don't regret it...TOO much.

Her fate may be interesting. The guy that bought it was buying it for a bar called the Shaved Beaver in Everton, MO where it would become a showpiece placed over or on the stage. He also said after seeing it, he may keep it for himself but he's not sure until he spends some time on it. I'll keep ya posted if it ends up in the bar.

"I'm past the stage of denial and starting to feel acceptance" That's an awesome bike you had there, hope the r3 comes thru soon. A trip west may have to happen next spring.

I posted thinking it would sit for a while with this sucky economy and such but it went in less than a week. I hadn't even gotten used to the idea of selling yet.

Whew... this is hard news to digest! I am glad however that you got a good price. And I'm glad you're graduating (see, that way you don't have to use the 'upgrade' word) to the R3... AND I'm SUPER glad you'll stick around here!

Now the REAL question here is, what's Dave gonna do about this?

Perhaps the bar can't tolerate bits and pieces regularly falling off some "vintage iron". So they went with a quality bike instead.

Man that was fast. I guess the little talk we had about keeping it for your son didn't take...huh?? Well if you can't find an R-III you can always downgrade to a Thunderbird. I'm not worrrying too much about Dave. He's got Tiger 1200 fever.

Even though I no longer have my America I come back to this site because of the good people here.I try to make several of the rallys every year and feel wecomed even if I'm on my Tbird. This site seems more Triumph oriented than modle specific, that being said,I try not to comment on my bike out of respect for the site.

More than 2 here but an R3T would be an addition not a replacement.

IT MOST CERTAINLY IS NOT AN UPGRADE! Rather a move to something different!

Personally, I 'graduated' from a 700lb monster to my TBA. It's just more fun to ride.

Exactly. If you read the fine print it says BA.com a site dedicated to the riders and FANS of the BA america and SM. Just because I don't ride one anymore doesn't mean I'm not still a fan. Anyway thers's a blue TBA parked in my garage that belongs to some kid.

Well Chris, all I can say here is that if you're now lookin' for more of a long distance tourer, then I can certainly understand selling your BA for a R3T.

I can't think of too many other big tourers tourers I'd like to have other than that and/or maybe a Victory Cross Country and/or (hold your fire here folks) a Harley Street Glide.

I think I see the point. Why waste perfectly good Speedie for bar decorations when it should be ridden??? And parts falling off the bike. It must be a vintage Harely. See Mr. Terminator...I mean Mr. Administrator, he was making a JOKE not a point. LOL

Now the "Shaved Beaver"...no I just can't comment, Missannies is lurking around here somewhere.

Hmmmm...well, the only thing I can't quite figure out is why would a bar with a name like that and which I would assume would cater to a "younger crowd"(I hear this "sorta thing" is all the rage nowadays, if ya catch my drift ) would want to place a retro styled motorcycle on display???

(...you'd think a more appropriate kind of motorcycle to display to that sort of demographic would be a more modern looking bike, wouldn't ya?!)

Perhaps a study is needed to determine the prevalence of this sort of thing among the "younger crowd". While I am quite busy, if the funding, and an appropriate sampling were provided I might be able to find the time.

Dave, I just don't know what to say. I'm having a momentary lapse of reason?

Tom...I know man, what was I thinking? I'm psyched for the R3T and it's that demo ride that probably did it to me.

Rich, I...I...I...I don't know. But I honestly teared up when I watched her pull away on that trailer.

Paul, I thought about our talk and I would have loved to have given it to my son. Just wasn't in the cards.

Keith, y'all won't get rid of me. Like Paul said, it's a hell of a community and I have way too many friends. I'll still be at the rallies and now I can ride to Canada with a little more ease and storage. Expect a knock on your door someday in the future.

Donny, I hate that I sold it and I miss her something fierce but it's on to something different like you said. I appreciate the support!

John, I have to agree that knowing her fate might be a stage does kinda bum me out. She ran perfectly, was fast as crap, and deserves to be on the road. I'm envious I can't keep multiple bikes like you but...got a family and another on the way in Feb. Yikes!

To all the guys and gals...thanks for not jabbing me up too hard. You're all good friends. I'm sad and excited all at once and on the hunt for that R3T pretty aggressively. The comments about the bar has been a hoot.

Wow!

I understand your reasoning, and can't fault your logic at all.

After chasing it across several states I can attest it was a sweet running cycle, and I am glad I got a chance to see the paint job in person. Gorgeous!

To think of it as a bar ornament - wow! Still, that's on the buyer, not you. Congrats on a good sale and here's to finding a great Rocket!

The guy that bought it was buying it for a bar called the Shaved Beaver in Everton, MO where it would become a showpiece placed over or on the stage.

WTF!?! What a waste! Get some old piece of vintage iron for decoration!

Perhaps the bar can't tolerate bits and pieces regularly falling off some "vintage iron". So they went with a quality bike instead.

So not the point.

Oh well, I guess we don't share the same sense of humour. Sorry if YOU disapprove.

I'm getting vertigo!

And me

This is getting kind of cool like a 3D thread.
