Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Amen to that Brother Dwight

It's one of the reasons I rarely frequent the places, that and the obligatory patched crowd hanging around the drive through window tormenting the 20 something Moms & blue-haired ladies.

So, when it is all settled, will the runners up have to hang out at Dunkin' Donuts?

What's wrong with Dunkin Donuts?

And for that matter, what the hell is with these bikers not hanging out at a bar, or a Hooters maybe?
You'd think it'd be the Beemer riders trying to monopolize the Starbucks, not the outlaws.

Bimmer riders!, funny. My local Starbucks seem to draw the scooter crowd. I prefer Crispy Creme to Dunkin Donuts, but I've had D&D's coffee it's pretty good. I've got a Starbucks four blocks from my home, never been in it. Is their coffee really that good to be as expensive as I've heard?

I'm convinced that Starbucks is more of a social hangout. The coffee is so-so and overpriced. I'll take McDonalds various coffee offerings any day of the week.

Didn't buy into the hype, you can keep the change.

Short answer, no. I think their philosophy is the stronger the coffee, the more expensive it should be.
They can't touch dunkin donuts or krispy kreme IMO.

As far as the original story, that is bizarre...

Starbucks has some very good coffee. They make it strong, like coffee should be made. $2.00 for a 20oz cup ain't bad.

The only problem is that for a cup of black coffee (again, the way I prefer to enjoy it) you are usually limited to two choices of beans/roasts; whatever they brewed that day.
Some are excellent, some are so-so.

McD's has some good coffees anymore as well.

Dunkin' Donuts coffee is better than than the mass marketed pre-ground crap like Folgers or Maxwell House, but not by much.

We don't have and Dunkin Donuts shops up here but I buy their coffee in grocery store. Good stuff. If I want FOOFOO coffee I go to a couple locally owned independent places before 5. After that, I occasionally hit Starbucks.

There's something not quite right about Starbucks coffee. Some insist it's laced with MSG while others argue otherwise. This, and this alone sparked the great Starbucks biker war of 2011!

Yeah, it's true or my name ain't Dickens!!!

I have a friend who worked at one of the local places in college. He always ranted that Starbucks burns their coffee, which is why it's so bitter. The place I go the owner roasts his own beans and their coffee is great.

They do seem to overroast their beans, at least with lot of their bolder varieties (and I prefer a bold roast). The Kenyan is pretty good (don't worry not talking politics here lmao), and I like some of the other roasts, but overall I think Millstone and Seattle's Best have better tastes.
Oh and SB got rid of their best product ever a few years ago; the Mocha Valencia.

Edited to add: Oh god I sound like a yuppie... In my defense I grew up near Seattle - and I've owned two BMWs, even if they were cars not bikes.

From an ex-yuppie, if you owned a BMW Auto in the late 70s or 80s, ever wore deck shoes, khaki slacks, Polo knit or ever bought anything from LL Bean, other than hunting or fishing gear, you sir are or were a yuppie.

I worked 6 months at the Starbucks roasting facility initial build in Kent,Wa installed bins, conveyors, ovens, etc. as the facility came on line and they began roasting the green, shipped in beans, I have to say it smelled great, like percolated Folgers of old. Then as the second phase "The Burning Ovens" came on line...P U, you see their propitiatory process is as simple as taking perfectly good roasted coffee and burning it and that boys and girls is why they charge you extra. I quit that job to go work at Seattle Waste Water (poop plant) in Magnolia and Gods honest truth, it actually smelled better.

I was a Starbucks employee when I was younger, and we never had any of these kinds of problems. Of course one store was in a mall and the other was across from the police station.

Starbucks coffee is pretty terrible. I'll drink it but prefer a small local roaster when given the option. Of course I pay way too much for my coffee. Lighter roast, smoother taste, higher caffeine.

They now own Seattle's Best too, by the way. They tend to roast that brand better.

Yes, I am a coffee snob.

Now let me tell you about Keith's coffee...

A-HA!!!! I KNEW it!
I toured the Millstone roasting facility in Everett back in the late 80's when it was still just a "local coffee"; it smelled so good in there, I wanted to move in. They're not as good since they went national, but still one of the best I think.

Well Brent, that's just one of the things you and I have in common... we are both coffee snobs. And according to my taste buds (not my opinion) Starbucks sucks!! Their coffee simply assaults the senses! It is burnt as Ryk pointed out and I suspect is laced with MSG.

Now, about MY coffee (seems how Brent brought it up)... I can't speak for anyplace East of the Rockies but certainly from any point WEST of the great continental divide, I make the best coffee EVER!!! No, I'm not boasting... just stating a fact!
