Getting loads of head buffeting at speeds over 55MPH. I've read lots on the net about different windshields, appears to be very hit or miss and I'm not optimistic for an easy solution.
Anyone here have experience with Slipstream windshields, specifically the HD-0 police shield and the SS-30? For the price they seem to be worth a try, and hardware is included. I do not currently have a shield nor any mounting hardware.
I'm 6'0" 230 lbs and wear a full helmet, anyone of similar build feel free to write if they have found a solution that will allow me to ride without holding on for dear life.

No Experience with Slipstream windshields, but my 07 has the Triumph Roadster screen. It works like a champ in reducing head buffetting, stopping bugs & etc. but it could be about 1-1/2 to 2 inches taller to eliminate wind in my face altogether. But I do enjoy some wind in my face anyhoo. I'm 6 ft 185 lbs & wear a 3/4 open basher.

Counterpoint: I had the Triumph roadster screen, am two or three inches shorter than Karl, wear a full face helmet and HATED that screen. Buffeted me mercilessly.

Hey Tom... I looked up those Slipstreamer windshields you mentioned just to see what you were talking about. I have no experience with Slipstreamers specifically but have a fair bit of experience with windshields in general. It's a bit a science, getting a shield to work well with your bike, your body type, seating position, etc. You can't necessarily blame the buffeting issue on the shield because there are so many other factors at play. I've had my head bashed around by buffeting from this shield or that one, but in the end found that lowers cured the problem completely. Yup, it seems a lot of air is forced up from below and that can be blocked with a set of lowers. Try holding your left arm and hand level to the ground at a place somewhere around your chest. I'm confident you'll feel air pushing up on your arm and if you do, THAT is what's causing the buffeting.
Live to love, love to live.

I had the viper ss. no buffeting with 1/2 helmet but it would beat me up wearing a fullface.

with any windscreen I've had, lowers made the biggest difference for buffeting. Keith's test is a good one.

Tom, round town @ 35-50 mph the roadster screen works very well for me. On the highways @ 55-75 I get alot of wind but don't really notice any real bad head buffetting until I have the bike up to 80-95+ mph. Wind shear around my helmet at those speeds are pretty bad, and I sort of duck down (getting under the wind stream off the shield) about 2 inches to avoid the head buffeting. Just a point of note in my recent experience)...side winds (winds coming perpendicular or nearly so, to the direction of travel) will contribute greatly to head turbulence. On a 250 mile ride to the lake early this summer, 12-15 mph (with gusts to 30mph)cross winds played a major role in the head buffetting I experienced. I had to leave the highway (traveling 65-75 mph) and opt to travel state secondary roads (45-55 mph) to avoid getting hammered to death. Hmmm..maybe I should give Kieth's test a try too
