I think comfort is important. If you ride to places that you are going to be working, socializing, or general hanging out and walking around. I'm not so sure I would go for a motocross boot for that. I'm not going to change boots every wear I go.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.
