Jim, just saw this and even though I only met your Dad once at the Georgia Rallys back in '04 (when Mert came down and camped with you guys the first time), I most certainly will keep him in my thoughts and prayers!

Hey Everybody.. 1st, thanks to Rhonda for logging on here and updating as much as she has.. It's been just to hard for me to do it much..
My Dad is in very critical condition. He's stable, but very critical.
We had a meeting with some Doctors last Thursday afternoon. As it was explained to us, he has 5 major issues they are trying to address. As they work on one thing, something else comes up and then they work on that. While working on that, something else comes up and they work on that.. It's hard to explain really. Kind of like a leaking dam, once they plug one leak, another one pops up somewhere else. These 5 major problems are taxing my Dad. He can't have a 6th issue come up or it could be devastating. He's holding his own as it stands for now with all the medications. His back surgery has been postponed for now, and I'm not sure when they plan to address it. The most important thing obviously is to keep him alive, and thats what they're doing.
There really hasn't been any improvements or good news relayed to us by the medical staff in days. He's just holding steady for now, and I'm not sure whats next. We do have another meeting on Monday to cover whats happened this weekend. Once we have the meeting, I'll try to get on and post an update.
My Mom is holding her own fairly well. My brother and I are helping her with needs and taking her where ever she needs to go. I've told her about everyone wanting to know how she is, and she's very touched by everybody's concern.
Keep the prayers coming, they sure are helping!!

What a difference a day makes!
Todays visit with my Dad was outstanding! It's the 1st time where I've felt confident that he's going to make it. I'm very guarded and cautious about it, but I really feel like he is.
Rhonda and I met with his Kidney doctor today, and the Doc is happy with some of the readings, etc. that he keeps up with. Although the numbers are in the Bad Range, they are dropping, and getting closer to where they need to be. It's also the 1st time this Doc has said we've got a long road ahead of us. Beats what they've been preparing us for!
We still have a long ways to go, but at least there is hope! I know it'll take a long time, I really do, but I so wish he could come home soon like of you do.
We'll do our best to keep everybody up to date!
Keep the prayers coming!!
Jim

That is great news! I am so happy for you guys. His organs are working so hard to overcome the trauma he's been through. But God is able and has been hearing the prayers. I am continuing to pray. Praise God for this wonderful news. May God continue to bless and keep your family!

While I follow them closely, I try to leave threads like this alone because I have an uncanny knack for saying the wrong thing. However, know that I am pulling for Larry. I have seen people recover from some really awful conditions and hope that it happens again in this case.

Rhonda posted this on Facebook this morning.... please pray for the family
Pray for our family. Larry was moved out of icu yesterday and released to hospice care. It has been a long and difficult road for all of us. Trying to have grace but that's not always easy. I do pray we all become a little less distracted as we drive. When I was 16, all I had was a am/fm radio and that was sufficient. I worry we have to many gadgets in our cars. Lives are at stake when we get in our cars. I ask that we all slow down a bit, talk less on phone and drive more cautiously. This has been a lifechanging event for all.

The last time Jim posted Drs talked to the family about possible brain damage. That has been a week ago. We need to understand they may not always have time to update us. Plus family is under a tremendous amount of distress.

I understand all that, I just missed the connection between possible brain damage and hospice. The former doesn't necessary lead to the latter.

They don;t keep you in ICU in a hopstial forever. I went through that with my dad. After ICU for about 4 weeks he went to long term ICU then after that Reahb nursing home.

Sad news to hear our friend has taken a turn for the worst. I think about Larry everyday. I like to think I can ride pretty well, guess we all do but I could never pull away from Larry no matter the difficulty. You look back and Larry was in your mirror,50mph,60mph,70mph in the twisties, right on your azz, hahaha. By gosh he is one great rider. I remember fondly the year I led everyone over the Cherohala Skyway during the Georgia Rally, 2008 maybe. We carved that mountain up that day, broke my speedo cable at about 7000rpm's. Larry had the biggest shiteating grin when we stopped at the bottom. Good times with a good friend, friends. I'm still pulling for him and hope to see him again wearing that light blue coverall and smoking,non-filter cigs and riding the latest bike he just purchased.

Ha. That light blue outfit is his poll barn leisure wear. I guess it was at the 2010 Ga. Rally, I was kind of surprised how many on the site was down on the new T-birds. I came early to meet up for a ride. Larry was always was one of the first riders to the meet up points. He looked at my bike and said, "I don't know why everyone is making such a fuss about the T-bird it's a Triumph isn't it?" I said yeah. It made my day that I had received the "LarryShep seal of approval".

Good morning everyone...sorry we haven't updated lately. We are a bit exhausted. Last week was a terrible week. On Monday, Larry was removed from respirator and into a private room. He has a trach which makes it a little easier for him to breathe. The biggest problem we have now is the brain injury. Not sure how all of this happened but the drs believe when he arrested twice, Larry depleted his body of oxygen therefore causing a tremendous amount of damage. He also hit his head on the car....not sure how much that contributed to the brain injury. He does not know us and is in a total vegetation state. You can image how painful this is for Jimmy. His Dad was at our house the week before the accident watching Fox news with me (i'll keep those conversations private ) and so strong to see him in this condition is just heart wrenching. Please continue to lift us up in prayer, send positive thoughts and whatever else you are doing. It has kept us going. He has had the best care and he is comfortable and not in pain. I have been angry for 14 years the way God took my Dad suddenly in a car accident 14 years ago this past October, but after going thru this ordeal with my sweet husband, I am no longer angry. I never want anyone I know or love go thru this again. We have much to be grateful and wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.

I saw my cousin back in 02 come through a brain injury. It's tragic to witness and even more when it's an immediate family member. But he came through it. Yes he sustained permanent damage. And he's a different person. But he lives a quality life even with having gone through it. We laugh, tell jokes and stories from our childhood. But there was a time when that all seemed impossible.
I say that to say this. Don't lose hope. The Bible teaches us that with men things are impossible but with God, nothing is impossible. It's true, he may never come out of this. But it is just as possible that he will have a limited if not a full recovery. Only time will tell.
When I went to see my cousin and all he could do was kick like a baby, I still spoke to him as if he heard every word. I believe he did. I knew that somewhere beyond whatever had disconnected him from us that he was still there.
So you guys, I know you are doing this already because you just seem to be the kind of family who would, keep talking to him even though it seems he doesn't hear. Keep hoping for him and just as importantly keep praying. Pray with him, pray over him, anoint him with oil, call in the elders to do the same. Touch him, tell him stories about the people he knows, read to him, play his favorite music and sermons from his favorite teachers. I can't guarantee any results but at least its something you can do. Finally, give him over to God. The doctors may have found their limits but nothing is impossible with God.
You all are continually in my thoughts and prayers. May God's peace abide with you.
Its more fun to be ridin'! I'm still ridin
