I can finally leave the sound turned up at the beginning of Monday Night Football without worrying that my ears would bleed by the horrific screeching of Hank Williams, Jr. This is the best thing to happen to MNF in 20 years. Good call ESPN.

Except for ESPN's call being punishment for his having an opinion opposite their's I might agree. But you are welcome to your opinion.
Personally I think celebs as well as media moguls like ESPN should keep their politics to themselves. Most of the time they just show their ignorance every time they open their mouths. But its their right isn't it? When we're out on the bikes and group up we tend to stay away from politics and religion.
But what about free speech? Its still in the constitution isn't it? I like my free speech. You guys like your free speech?

Absolutely, everyone should be free to agree with my point of view!  I think freedom of speech is very important but I also think there is a time and place for things. It shouldn't be mandated or anything but a little common sense should be applied.

Yea "hallelujah" they've come out against free speech one more reason not to watch football.
All the players are thugs and criminals.
They are millionaires who think they are in "slavery"

Nobody told him he wasn't free to say whatever he liked. Just as they are free to fire him for being offensive. Sounds like you want to force ESPN to keep him on the dole completely on his terms. Old Hanky is finally learning what most adults have already learned. There are consequences to your actions. Listening to his reaction, it's likely the first time anyone has ever held him accountable.

yeah, you cant blame espn for wanting to stay politically neutral, they have just as many democrat fans as republican. If Hank wanted to wave flags, he has the right. Espn has the right to avoid looking like Fox news, Cnn, or any television station painting themselves a certain color.

In my view, I think it's a shame that Hank Jr. didn't think twice before breaking "Godwin's Law" and selecting the names that he used in his metaphor to make his point.
Because, ya see, the BIGGER shame and the point that Jr. was attempting to make was that the people he was talking about with his "...and those two will never agree about anything" quote, well, that pretty much seems to be the way it's been throughout this country of ours for WAY too long a time now, and by WAY too many people.

First off, I'll admit to being that third stooge just to keep this light and friendly.  Bocephus hasn't done much different than alec baldwin, jane fonda, Hugo Chavez's friend sean penn, ad nauseum. How many networks/cable channels have banned them? Yet ESPN (let's cut to the chase: Disney) bans Hank? Some one sided coin Disney flips eh?  There is no place for politics in entertainment. mrs moe and I have have stood up more than once during a live perform in a theater and walked out because the entertainer has started the politrics crap. And we weren't too polite about leaving either.

I never intended to make any political point. I simply can't stand the opening of MNF with the screeching of that tone deaf clown. Hated it since day one. I was absolutely serious about turning the sound down for the first ten minutes or so. Now, if his late father were performing, that's a whole 'nother game. HE was talented. The babe on Sunday Night Football is pretty good, too.

Yeah, I agree with ya on this, Chet. Hank Sr. and his old original Country Music style is really the only kind of Country Music I've ever really cared for at all. One might say it was in its "purest form" back then. This new stuff that passes itself off as "Country Music", pretty much leaves me cold.

I'm not here to pick sides. My questions is why in the heck do we need anyone to sing for us, It's an F'n football game. I enjoy the Game, I dont need additional entertainment to watch it. While we're at it get rid of all the flashing lights etc. If you want this type of entertainment turn on the music channel. What ever happened to Cosell and Dandy Don, oh never mind

Free speech is irrelevant when you work for someone. His employer just (apparently) disassociated themselves from someone who brought them unwanted attention, as is their right. You have the right to vote with your feet, and not patronize the corporate entity you disagree with.
I don't have free speech in all things working for Northrop Grumman. I could post about the things I was working on that are "company confidential" but I want to keep my job. If I felt strongly enough about something, I can sacrifice my employment for the sake of pursuing "freedom of speech."
You don't have free speech here, we "censor" offensive content. But there are plenty of other venues where you can say whatever you want.
What do these things have in common? Private ownership. The government has nothing to do with it, therefore no violation of the constitution.
No politics about it. People who like to scream censorship usually don't truly understand the concept. Just like people who compare anything they don't like to Hitler, don't understand what they're really saying.

Years ago Randall "Tex" Cobb had an unfortunate fight with Larry Holmes. While his boxing skills were not all that great, Cobb demonstrated a remarkable ability to absorb a beating. Oh, I didn't hear that part of his comments, Chet. And so in that case, I agree with Friar John's comments above.
(...though I still stand by my comment that it seems fewer and fewer people in this country possess the ability to be able to reach some kind of agreement or an accord with those whom they may have disagreements...a situation which I think speaks volumes about the shortsightedness of our present culture)

Hank Jr isn't the brightest star in the heavens, but the video is on YouTube, he's using a metaphor. They asked him if he meant to use Hitler, he said yes. They could have asked him if he meant to say Netanyawho (sp) , he would have said yes. If one watches the whole interview the context was polarization of the body politic. He does disrespect the Three Stooges though.
