So I wonder, what's up with 50, 60, 70 lurkers at a time, viewing a user's profile? In the past I would regularly check 'Who's Online' and didn't see this. Cause for concern?

We've been through this. Maybe you were gone.  Most are probably search engine "bots" scanning and indexing the site.
