yesterday I needed to go to the dealer to drop off some parts and order some other stuff for the t-bird. It is a 50-60 mile trip with no direct route possible. About 60 F, and partialy cloudy afternoon with no wind. So I roll out the speedmaster (which has been sitting all week) and she starts right up. After a couple of miles the engine is warm and its time to really open her up. This bike seems to like running in cool weather. Anyway, just the sound of that engine is like music and the roll on power is a great feeling. As I am riding, I am thinking that this bike has more soul than any other bike I have ever ridden. I rode about 140 miles total just meandering the back road of the kettle moraine forest, and got home feeling just right about everything. A good day on a great bike.

Mine has the same effect on me, my chopper had soul too but I had to tweek something every time I rode it. Now that I am getting older and have a real job it's nice to just do simple mait. and ride.

I think the soul feeling is from the tinkering with things. The more you touch it, move it, break it, fix it, the more its yours, the deeper the connection with the bike.
I read a book that had a similar concept in that the inanimate objects that we own, we really borrow because they'll be around long after we're gone. So what if the soul of the person is transfered or rubbed onto that object like a fingerprint, or a stain?

Reminds me of a poem I wrote many years ago.
I started the last bolt one April morn tightened it down and a Triumph was born
I rolled it out to give it a try engine kicked back, flung me high in the sky
Now, when you build your own scoot fitting each custom part you build in your soul, some of your heart
So, I poured a double shot down the gas tank she fired up on the very next crank
Now you'll see us, my Trumpet and me Puttin', partyin' and sharin' a jug of JD
Let's hope there's intelligent life somewhere in space 'cause it's buggar all down here. -- Monte Python

I like the poem. Who would have thought!
' Now, when you build your own scoot fitting each custom part you build in your soul, some of your heart'
that sums it up nicely
