yesterday I needed to go to the dealer to drop off some parts and order some other stuff for the t-bird. It is a 50-60 mile trip with no direct route possible. About 60 F, and partialy cloudy afternoon with no wind. So I roll out the speedmaster (which has been sitting all week) and she starts right up. After a couple of miles the engine is warm and its time to really open her up. This bike seems to like running in cool weather. Anyway, just the sound of that engine is like music and the roll on power is a great feeling. As I am riding, I am thinking that this bike has more soul than any other bike I have ever ridden. I rode about 140 miles total just meandering the back road of the kettle moraine forest, and got home feeling just right about everything. A good day on a great bike.

Mine has the same effect on me, my chopper had soul too but I had to tweek something every time I rode it. Now that I am getting older and have a real job it's nice to just do simple mait. and ride.
I learned all I need to know about life by killing smart people and eating their brains.

I think the soul feeling is from the tinkering with things. The more you touch it, move it, break it, fix it, the more its yours, the deeper the connection with the bike.
I read a book that had a similar concept in that the inanimate objects that we own, we really borrow because they'll be around long after we're gone. So what if the soul of the person is transfered or rubbed onto that object like a fingerprint, or a stain?
