It's been raining all damn week here, so haven't been able to ride to work. Finally had a break in the weather this evening so I jumped on for an evening ride. First 10 miles or so ran fine...actually sorta smoother than recently, but then I had a short open stretch so I jumped on the throttle and the damn think shutoff completely!! Coasted to a corner, fired right back up...sluggish. So just out of instinct I switched the petcock to reserve and it ran fine again. Now the exhaust was a little louder and I had ALOT of popping on deceleration. Rode a few miles and switched the petcock back over to ON. Ran fine all the way home, but still had alot of popping and the exhaust was definately louder. I've had some issues with the bike stalling at intersections. If I just rev it once or twice before coming to complete stop it wont stall. Any ideas??

Look for a missing vacuum cap. You should see 4 of them around the carbs.

I have been hearing some air sucking at times while giving throttle and a tick here and there. I noticed a couple of those caps look dry rotted and cracked.

If they are cracked they will suck air and the bike will run like crap.

Tighten your battery connections too.
A word to the wise is not necessary. It is the stupid ones who need the advice.

Check all your vacume caps. I had the same problem with my 07 Speedmaster. Dont get the junk ones from your local auto parts store. They wont last. Get ones that say buna-n or silicone. I got some from Mr. Gasket through Jegs.com.

Don't forget to check the rubber boots or connectors that fasten the carbs to the intake manifolds. Make sure they aren't cracked under the clamps.

+1 this is a big one, so many people over tighten those clamps, the boots are easy to pinch or crack especially if they have a few years on them.

Well I replaced all four vacuum caps, inline fuel filter and tightenend my battery terminal connections. Took the bike out yesterday evening for a couple hour cruise and the bike was like a new bike!! Ran awesome!! I'm thinking it was the vacuum caps but whichever, it made me quite a happy guy last night! I rode easy and I rode hard and the bike performed flawlessly. Glad she's back. Thanks for all of the advice!! Truly valuable resource to have y'all here!
