after reading Billvegas' post about getting his son his first bike, it kinda got me to thinking about mine and what everyone else started out on. my first bike was a 50cc Italian made Hardlydavidson. i road the crap out of that bike off road (of course it wasnt built for off road) and then sold it to another kid in the hood when i moved up to a 125 Bennelli that was also for road use and i beat to death off and on road. so i was just wondering, where did you get your start?? off road or on?? and with what bike??

ENJOY!!!!! NEWT!!!!!

Got my start off road when I was probably about 10. I rode a couple of neighbors' Honda CR80 bikes everyday at the local VFW in the summers. I had a bad accident on one of them one day and quit. I was burned pretty bad by the exhaust pipe too.
Got back on a Honda CB650 and got my license on it. It was my official first bike. It looked like this when I bought it:

And a year later I sold it looking like this:

My next bike was the 03 Speedy I have now. My pride and joy which I will keep forever.
I am currently looking for a R3T which I hope to add to the stable as soon as the right one comes around.

When I was 14 I worked at my Dad's Standard station and he bought me a Lil Indian minibike, I rode the cr*p out of that picking up parts and things for him.
My first real bike was a Honda 305 Scrambler that my older brother gave me when he joined the Marines.

Honda 50Z. When I was 16 I got a cb550. Guess that would be the first street bike.

I still have 2 of these and the 750 version too, traded the GT550 I had and rode the snot out of for my Norton P11.

My first was a Morini Super America (Might have been Benelli but I think it was Morini)

Mine too! It would do 92 mph downhill with a tailwind and me laying down flat with the wind..... and jump a foot or two when I went through a dip. Finally had to sell it to pay off my bar bill when I joined the Army.

My first bike owned is my 2002 TBA, Bollox. Before that I rode a friend's Suzuki Savage 600 (single cylinder) in college ('88) for a few weeks (dumped it once in gravel), and in '97 I took a very brief spin on my buddy's 1996 HD dyna glide. I think I rode half a block on my uncle's mini-bike in the late 70s before smacking it into his neighbor's Jeep.

First bike was Yamaha 400, vertical twin. After a girl taught me how to ride her Honda 250. A tall, good looking, red headed girl, oh, I was a lot younger then...

My first was a Suzuki AP50. A real moped complete with pedals, but more importantly, a 1 down 4 up gear sequence

After that a Suzuki GP100 until I holed the piston
Then a Honda CB125T wetdream (my first parallel twin)

Then two Yammy XS500 (heads went)
Then a Kwak Z750 4 cylinder chopped frame with front girders and rear softail

Then a gap due to marriage and divorce

Then the America

I was 7 or 8 when I got my Super America and it was a mini bike designed for touring Italy. Real kick starter and all made for the street but I killed it off road.

I took a '75 GT 550 on a 14,000 mile coast to coast (and beyond) trip when I was 21. Just added gas and oil.

Only problem I ever had with my GT550 was when it needed rings a shop did it and screwed up the timing so about 100 miles later I had a hole in the top of 2 of the pistons. They fixed it and tried to charge me. I gave them $50 with a promise to pay the rest but never gave them another dime. I was a kid so didn't know I didn't even have to give them the $50. My first street legal bike was my DT360.

Sears 106 SS (actually a rebadged Gilera). Rode it through HS, then got a new CB350 from the parents for graduation/16th B'day in 1973.

My first time... well I was 14 on vacation with the parents and we spent the night in Baton Rouge, she was also 14....oops. Wrong story

First motorcycle was a beat up Bridgestone 100 cc. Which I also beat the shat out of, then a Honda 175, next up was my BSA Victor 441, what a torque machine that was. Then my Suzuki GT550 and after that I don't remember a lot about the mid seventies through the mid eighties for some strange reason.

If I remember they also came in blue. They were the bomb at Randolph Field, the older guys had them & Vespas. By older guys I'm talkin 15 or 16. We skate boarded behind them with a ski rope, well till little Sammy Kaufmen lost control and went into that coma thing. The Air Police came down on those older guys hard, but heh all good things come to an end.

When I was young and even more stupid I decided my 550 needed new rings. It was actually pretty simply, even for a youngster. The rings were fine. It actually had a clogged jet. It was good practice though. It's good to be fearless.

I used to gap my points on that bike with pull can tab tops. They were everywhere and a better fit than a feeler gauge.

'54 Velocette 500. Got a great deal on it 'cause the original owner had a hard time starting it. It ran good, but it vibrated so much I finally traded it on a '49 Triumph 650 twin.

well, I started off on a couple Yamahas, a '73 DT125 Enduro and a 250 Enduro around 1976-77, then a '83 Honda Sabre VF700 from 87-91, and then Blue from June 21, 2003 till for good! Best of the lot so far although the DT125 looked an awful lot like an old Bonnie standard!
