First post here. Bought a used 05 TBA in mid August and have been enjoying the hell out of it and checking in here pretty much every night to look at the forums. Started my bike tonight to warm up for a couple minutes (I'm in Maine and its getting pretty cold) before I headed out. Wife called me inside to fix something, I got distracted and left it running for about 30-45 min. When I came out, something was smoking but otherwise seemed OK. After I'd been riding for a bit I realized I had no turn signals. When I got to my shop I replaced the fuse, had turn signals OK but blew the fuse as soon as I hit the brakes. Didn't really have time to chase it beyond that but thought I'd see if anyone else has ever had this issue or if there is an America wiring diagram online anywhere. Thanks much.

Welcome Shawn ! Uhhh , even if it's cold , 30 to 45 minutes is a LONG time to leave an air-cooled bike running . You may have gotten some wiring mighty hot . If you have to run one over a 5 minutes or so , put a good fan in front of the engine .

Look for something along this line

Quote:

Dealer fixed it in one day. It was pinched wire under the rear fender that was shorting out the fuses.

Hey Shawn,

Glad to have you on the site. Check the Tech Vault in the electrical section. Electrical diagram there.

If it's blowing the fuse immediately when that circuit is energized , then you have a substantial short to ground . Probably a bare spot on a wire , those are sorta easy to find . Sometimes the wire will be hot to the touch , that helps .

Many thanks to all. Finally tracked it down this evening to a chaffed wire just off the rear brake pedal pressure switch. Couldn't have done it without the help I received here, particularly the wiring diagram.
