The resistor is to fool the computer if you remove the air pump of the AI - not the O2 sensors. The O2 sensors can be left in but turned off at the computer using TuneECU (free) or Tuneboy.

It's not a good idea to remove the AI and NOT turn off the O2 sensors.

You can leave the air pump on - you just disconnect the hoses to and from it. It will still operate and produce an annoying clicking noise but is otherwise harmless. As stated - removing the air pump requires the resistor to fool the computer. I can't remember the resistance required and I can't easily check (at work). A search of the Rat forum should produce the resistance - that's where I found it.
