Well, as you probably know, Chad, the English Language is one of the few languages which has been and continues to be in constant flux, adding words from other languages and other cultures throughout its history, and thus is why it is a language with few absolute "rules" regarding its spelling and structure.
(...and which makes my constant little "ribbing" about it, most often directed toward our British "cousins" over there, so much fun for me)
