So back on topic, the real way I got my nickname was a grizzled old Harley biker friend saw me sitting on my British bike, and said, "Hey FRIAR!" It stuck. He said if I bought a Japanese cruiser he probably would've called me "Buddha."

Bullet dodged there...

The day in question:

I wasn't saying we should have politics by any stretch, John, I was just backing up what you touched on about this site being strictly cycle talk. I don't think we would have what we have today if that were the case.Politics, I 100% agree should be left out for the reasons you state. I just had a heated discussion this morning with a friend who lives in NC now. He called me and we got to talking about Obama vs. Bush. We have always been on opposite sides of politics so we can fight about it and joke and laugh at the same time but we have been friends for close to 20 years and even with that it gets heated sometimes. Difference is it never gets nasty and never any real anger between us, that wouldn't be the case here.

Its not the meaning of the name, but how I got it that is not so nice. The name is fitting though. I should of left it alone but ok the g rated version. I was 13 years old and doing some really bad stuff acting a rebellious fool. My uncle the only adult I respected then,(and one of the best horse trainers I ever met) confronted me. Probably saved my life. I still respect him for that day. He wised me up a lot in a few minutes.

Yo Friar's right..haha. I cant understand how anyone could read this and NOT think youre a pony poker. You must REALLY look like a pony...haha

I know what you were saying. Too much nuance is lost in this medium. But I don't talk politics with most of my friends offline, either.

You should have left the fixed part of your name off. Cause there is something wrong with ya man, if that's where your mind goes.
I expected it from John being all alone up in Montana. We'll you are from Jersey and I have seen that show Jersey shore. Haha

The joke is, I was so stubborn it took a horse trainer to set me straight. Its really abit more than that he helped me a lot through out my life. I was a rebellious teen who was headed for disaster. The particular incident is when I learned that some people were worth respect.

Well Tom my real name is Chad.
I'm not the famous Chubby Checkers.
But the much less famous Chad other wise known as Locopony. The man who plays bass and rides a triumph. The guy who moved to Texas on a motorcycle nearly 7 years ago.

The fact is I gave a hyperbolic answer thinking it was funny and would leave well enough alone.
I guess you intend on goading me into details. I gave the G rated answer that's good enough.

So people from south Jersey are used douchebags.

Texas could kick Jerseys arse any day. Of coarse we are a thousand times bigger and better.

Ever notice it's free to get into NJ but you have to pay to get back out?

(What makes that funny is it's mostly true)

Know why NYers are always mad? NJ is the light at the end of the tunnel. (Holland I think)

Well most peopel think its because I own some sort of BMW. Nope.

After I got my first bike (XJ700 Yamaha) I went on a rally with my inlaws who at the time were active in the Gypsy MC (San Antonio TX). I had my leather vest on and with it, a STAR TREK TGN com badge pin on my left side.

My father-in-law and his buddies were all sitting at a table and laughing while pointing in my direction. As I walked up they all said "BEAM ME UP SCOTTY!" I have always been a great STAR TREK fan. Original series and TNG.

I was always told, you dont get to pick your road name, its earned/given. It stuck and it fits. I am known either as BEAMER or because most of the MC knew my wife as a kid I was refered to as "Monkeys old man". (monkey being my wifes nickname).

i see the lounge as a kind of meeting place(corner bar) for friends or family if you will. i learned many yrs ago that there are 2 things you dont discuss in a bar...politics and religon. causes to many fights!!! this is a peacefull place with a lot of good bantor and with bantor sometimes comes hurt feelings to those that sometimes take things personal or serious. i also learned long ago... never take things to serious. everyone has an opinion and everyone has the right to theirs and sometimes its best to keep it to yourself. i would hate to see this place turn into some kind of pissin match over some political agenda or wheather there is a god. i enjoy listening to someone that is having an issue at home with a child or friend and the different responses to the solution or something that is going on someplace other than in my hometown and pics from around the world. this site wounldnt be the same without the open discussion in the lounge and that would be a sad thing. anyone that gets hurt feelings over something that was said about something to me is just silly we dont live next door to each other and we were all raised different from each other and have different ways of looking at things, to me that is how we broaden out way of thinking....by lisenting to others. I LOVE THIS PLACE!!!!! and wouldnt have nothing to look forward to without it thank you to all the moderators for keeping everyone on the straight and narrow. I having the last name Newton have been called Newt or cookie all my life and when i signed up here i decided Newt would be best since lonesome dove i have used Newt more than cookie hahahahahaha

Well back in the stone age when I joined the sight I was asked for a name. Not being clever enough to come up with anything snappy on the spot I looked around and saw our beloved black lab Lucy laying in a massive heap near near my feet...yup, 'blackdog' was born. Have been asked if it was a salute to Led Zeppelin but once again not that clever.

And I always thought it was in reference to the Robert Louis Stevenson "Treasure Island" character.
