Well day 2 I set off with it in my mind to be left with the engine in the frame, and I still have plenty of time for me to enable that. What I did find that the header nuts holding the exhaust into the head were rusted to he11, (see pics above) but after a good soaking beforehand and also while I was stripping the bike down with WD40 they came away really easy leaving the studs in the head at the top and coming adrift at the bottom (see photo below)
My problem is now the crossowver pipe where its jointed the bolt is rusted and causing me hassle (see photo below) otherwise everything is fine.
Also the rails holding the rear guard (Fender) proving to me this is a pre fire america with the dates on.

Should be a little further along tomorrow, hopefully the engine should be ready for the out.... May need a lift if anyone local can give us a ring over the weekend, my wrist is not the same these days...
