Screw that American Pride crap, Yamahas are well built machines. I gotta 72 enduro, beat to piss, sitting in the rain right now, that'll start up on 4 kicks and a half a choke.
Its not WHERE its made, its HOW its made.
America and Japan aren't the only places bikes are made, and there are "Jap bikes" that are made in the US. Honda shadows, and Goldwings are. Motoguzzi, Enfield, BMW, and Triumph, are good options that can be found used at reasonable prices. You don't have to just jump to a "jap bike". I do like some "jap" bikes, older ones are really cool. I know a goldwing is out of the question for a newbie but man what a sweet bike they are. The new Royal Enfield is a sweet little 500 cc british bike that won't break the bank.

I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.
