My original composition - "the ballad of the Virgnia Quake" (to the tune of the edmund fitzgerald):
The legend lives on from the beltway on down
of the big shake they called "the 5-9er"
The quake it is said caused not one single dead
when it shook DC and all those around her
With a rumble and roar heard at each starbucks store
The latte's shook off of their tables.
The floors slick as cream, what a harrowing scene
The patrons all scrambled for safety
ohhhh ohhhh the land shook like japan around me
ohhhh ohhhh we'd better take up oragami
Down on the floor of the check-cashing store
We thought maybe it was just a drive-by
As we shook to and fro only then did we know
That this was a major trembler
The traffic from town stood stock still on the roads
my cell phone no more than dead weight
I tried to call home to let them all know
Their taco bell would get there, but late
(okay - it's rough, and not done....but feel free to contribute verses).
