Wendy's lost 1 cyl in Niagara but the it came back and was fine all the way home even in the pouring rain. Mine quit twice in the rain, first time that ever happened to me and I have ridden in much heavier rain in the past many times. Wendy's quit in warm sunny weather but came back. I hear the procom has problems at low RPM and that bothers me since I may be in the market soon. So I am interested in alternatives too. My question is too those who have cut out in the rain, is that the beginning of the end of my CDI or are they OK once dry again?
Ian, one of our BA brethren swears ( when it come to cycles I do not question his knowledge) that once dry take some RTV sealant and seal the area around the bracket. This keeps moisture from collecting between the bracket and CDI. Of course a liberal coating of dielectric grease in and around the connector is a given. Will this extend the life, no one can say for sure but you can bet it wont hurt a thing. From what I have seen it seems the 02 and 03's are most likely to fail.
I'm currently running a Procom on my 04 Speedy because I robbed the cdi to replace one on my 03 America. Odd thing idling issues are true to some extent but the bikes running Procom seem to take longer to warm up, strange.
