UPDATE: i have had a chance to put about 500 miles on the new big bore engine. I AM IN LOVE ALL OVER AGAIN! first off when i took it to steve he told me that the bike would have more torque and more speed; but not to expect a whole new bike. a little while later i got a call from him saying that he had good news and bad news. the good news was that the speed and torque increase was significant (mind you steve has mostly done standard bonnie's that apparently have the same engine but different transmission) the bad new was that at 4.5 RPM in 4th gear the clutch slipped like mad (i was giddy and still waiting for bad news LOL) so since they didn't see that coming they sold me the racing clutch and springs at cost and added nothing ot that labor. keep in mind this is a labor of love for this guy. when he is not working on the race bikes he does this with his grandson. he charged a flat rate of $450.00 for labor. and for that he went over the bike with a fine tooth comb, installed pro oil coolers, removed the airbox and put in the kit, put on new tires, installed an oil pressure gauge, and of course did the big bore and tuned the carbs. as for the steel lady? she flies. the engine sound is deeper and throatier, the output is beyond words (i have not had it opened all the way up yet; but i can go ton up very easy) in the words of FJ, she runs like a raped ape. i can not stress enough how great this upgrade is, utterly thrilled.
