I noticed in members bike pics that the exhaust headers/tubes are wrapped. I am wondering what functional purpose this serves other than perhaps assisting in disapating heat from especially hot (like glowing red) pipes, or is it merely a styling preference?

It hides pitting headers....
Softens your hands while you do the dishes - You're soaking in it!!!!

It actually does have a function other than looking cool. It doesn't help to dissipate heat it serves to keep the heat IN. This means the exhaust gasses stay hotter for longer and hot gas flows faster than cool gas. This means that waste exhaust is expelled faster and generally results in increased performance. I definitely got an increase as my bike would labour hard above 100mph and now it pushes on easily to 120mph all the while pulling like a train.

Yep, when your pipes rust - they don't come down so easy.
No joke, had this on my w650 a few years ago. Thanks to the wrap!

I kinda thought it was something along those lines...couldn't imagine why one would wrap the pipes otherwise unless it was merely cosmentic (sic: blued/pitted pipes). I have run my 07 BA up to 95 mph only for a short (less than a mile as in my neck o the woods the state troopers tend to be as thick as flys on the hwys) space and danged if the breast didn't want more! I am really wanting to take the bike to Arizona or someplace where there ain't no speed limits just to see what she'll do without mods.
