Though if ya ask ME, I think this sad bit of "Who knew?" information says a lot MORE about U.S. PARENTS and THEIR lack of instilling in their OWN kids an "educational work ethic", than it does about the teachers! YEP! I hope you folks realize that our "American culture" has always somehow perversely "prided" itself on being anti-intellectual!

If you would read some A.A. Stagg the father of modern education you would know how and why we are where are in education here. As far as anti intellectualism goes, it is a bit of hyperbole created by Hollyweird that had become true. We didn't become the most advanced nation years ago by choosing ignorance the way we have these days.
Oh "yeah"! When in doubt, we can ALWAYS blame all of our collective faults on "Hollyweird", huh Chad!!!
So dude, tell me somethin' here...WHERE exactly does the idea of PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY(a great little "catchphrase" that one particular segment of our society just seems to LOVE to trot out at their convenience) about the idea of PARENTS making sure that their "little Johnnies and Susans" know what the friggin' capital of North Carolina is, HUH???
And PLEASE don't tell me that that was "all taken away from us when they socialized education". 'Cause dude, THAT is CRAP!!!
(...'cause once again, PARENTS need to take RESPONSIBILITY for their kid's education, NO MATTER if they send their little darlings off to Public OR Private schools....GOT IT???!!!)
