I am a teacher in the PREP/PRIVATE school system and my wife is a teacher in the PUBLIC system.

Just wanted to say I agree with Saxtron about the public system which is what we are really talking about here. Kids are being taught a test and MAP scores are what the govt. is looking at. Then all scores are compared school to school. Funding is based on those scores and it puts the focus of the teacher in the wrong place.

In regard to the comment above about teachers making too much maybe in the PREP schools...Ummmmm NO!
Public school teachers make a ton more than PREP teachers. I make a lot less than my wife, I don't get a retirement program like she does, mine's a joke really. In fact, my pay has decreased over the last two years because the prep schools are hurting for tuition money these days. Starting salary at my PREP school that has a tuition of 21,000 dollars/year per student is about 35,000 dollars/year.

And if ya ask ME, Chris, I've always been of the mind that people such as your poor wife who teaches at public schools DESERVE to be paid more than teachers such as yourself who work in the private school sectors. And THAT'S 'cause YOU at least get some support from the PARENTS(there's that word again, huh?!) who shell out some of their income to make sure their kids are learning and thus are more likely to take an active role in their kid's education, as compared to many if not MOST parents who just send their little darlings off to public schools and expect the teachers THERE to "raise" them for 'em!

(...uh huh...ever seen the turn out at any of the PTA meetings at public schools, folks?!...it's friggin' PATHETIC!!!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)
