I am a teacher in the PREP/PRIVATE school system and my wife is a teacher in the PUBLIC system.
Just wanted to say I agree with Saxtron about the public system which is what we are really talking about here. Kids are being taught a test and MAP scores are what the govt. is looking at. Then all scores are compared school to school. Funding is based on those scores and it puts the focus of the teacher in the wrong place.
In regard to the comment above about teachers making too much maybe in the PREP schools...Ummmmm NO! Public school teachers make a ton more than PREP teachers. I make a lot less than my wife, I don't get a retirement program like she does, mine's a joke really. In fact, my pay has decreased over the last two years because the prep schools are hurting for tuition money these days. Starting salary at my PREP school that has a tuition of 21,000 dollars/year per student is about 35,000 dollars/year.
