I wanted running lights as well. Tried the Kissan signal minder. Did not like the heat on the lens from the turn lamps on all the time. Wanted low level running lamps. I picked up four of the shallowest dual filament 1157 sockets I found at the local auto parts store and 1157 lamps. I then cut out the sockets from the soft plastic inserts inside the turn signals. Did have to solder on a ground wire to each socket as the flimsy ground tab broke off easily. Pulled extra "hot" wires for power from the aux socket under the tank. One lead to the headlight bucket and one to the tail light assembly. Split them and followed the existing turn signal wiring. Used RTV to hold the new sockets in the plastic inserts. New hot leads to the low/dim filament of the 1157 lamps. That was over a year and many thousands of miles ago. Total cost was about $45. Very happy with it. If I were to do it again I would go ahead a buy some inexpensive dual filament turn signals. I would say that I am seen a little better by the cages having the additional lamps.
Rear amber lamps are not legal as always on (should be red) but have never had any issues.
