I put fiona down today. In one of the dumbest, most embarassing moves I've ever made..... (of course, there was a guy on a harley and a guy on a yamaha sitting there chuckling).

Pulled up to the ferry (I take a ferry across the potomac when I ride to work). Stopped on the hill in line - put my right foot down, and there was no ground.....(on a hill, on a curve - ground was just not there) - lost the center of gravity, and ever so slowly laid the bike on the ground.

No apparent damage....the yamaha guy helped me pick it up. Harley guy was just laughing...

sigh.

at least I and the bike are okay.

I HATE when that happens! However, because it appears there was no damage(well, other than to the ego, maybe), in the immortal words of the late great L.A. Lakers' announcer Chick Hearn..."No harm, no foul"...eh Hasso?!

(...though it sounds like that Harley rider was probably thinkin' somethin' to himself like.."Ooh! That dude on the Triumph just got "put in the Popcorn Machine!", or "The mustard slipped off the hot dog" there alright!)

Many years ago a friend and I were leaving a party in the wee hours of the morning. Tom didn't realize it but he had slid the kick starter up his pant leg when putting his foot on the peg. The first stop sign we came to he leaned to the right, attempted to put his foot on the ground and, very slowly...crash. Just like Artie Johnson's tricycle on the old Laugh In show. He quickly jumped up, looked around and said, "Hope nobody saw that."

No, sorry Hasso, can't say that I have. However, if this is a recommendation, we'll sure check it out.

(..and I'll be sure to mention "hairdoo sent us" to the owner when we do!)

I jumped on one with the steering locked one time and layed it down much the same way. That's a bit painful too. I pulled a groin muscle.

I think its lean that causes an excessive amount, but it could be that those are your real pipes not heat shield.

Thanks again, and will do.

(...though you DO realize don't ya that people usually look at me like I'm crazy ANYWAY, and so listing those names there might NOT be of all that much help here!!!)

Almost 6 years ago this Sept 27...

Was it this guy?

I doubt it was Lou. But funny that I had a photo of my old Sportster on White's Ferry, given your tale!

What always amazes me when I use the ferry are the high water marks on the building.

yeah - isn't that incredible? the volume of water needed to get up that high, given how open it is there, is astounding.

Funny thing is most of us are old enough to know who that was and remember the bit. I find that very interesting (in the phony Artie Johnson German).

I dropped mine once too. I wasn't going anywhere, I thought the kickstand was down. It was a slow motion throw myself under the bike moment where someone had to help me up because I was pinned underneath. No damage though!

In June, I .05 MPH tipped over my 900 lb boat of a Yamaha (including my wife and all our stuff) after SWTF in the middle of California when I tried to creep back on the road after pulling off into some slick mud. Made one heck of a muddy mess, and dented my pride, but after a bike wash, a boot wash and little lining bent things back up, I take it as yet another learning experience.

Thom I might be wrong, I sometimes am.

When Wendy first got her bike she came to an intersection and the pavement dropped off at the shoulder about a foot. It was dark and when she stopped over she went. No damage.

Don't feel bad. Many years ago, a friend of mine (after a lot of party on the way) was riding slowly down the frontage road by the beach and forgot to put his feet down whilst stopping to talk to some bikini girls, 3 times in a row!
