Will be fitting a x ring chain to bike next week. Purchased from aftermarket at $80.00. The reviews on the o ring chains they supply came up good. Anyone got any ideas on the lube etc if required for these. Cleaned and lubed the o ring on a regular basis but some on the web reckon the x ring do not need the same kind of attention.
Anyone had one on for any length of time.

ran X ring for 23,000 miles about with no lube and still was in good shape but starting to need more frequent adjustment. No visible wear on the rear sprocket and only very slight wear on the front.I think with the X ring chain all lube does is make dirt stick to it and wear your sprockets. The double sealing surfaces keep any lube you put on out of the link anyway.

Just pondering as I always do , how can an "X" be a ring ?

X-ring chains are what these bikes come with from the factory.
Treat it the same as an o-ring, what can it hurt?

And don't listen to Ian. I think he's dabbling in the dark arts

As Bill said, it is the cross section. The seal has 2 sealing surfaces on each side giving it an "X" cross sectional view.
