our front rim is 2.5"
friar is running "Avon Venom 130/70-18 and it requires a 3" wide rim"
the Maxxis requires a 2.75", so its a 1/4 inch closer than what friar is using and he has not had any problems. also, the donlop k177 rim 120/90-18 requires a 3" rim and others have not reported problems.
i dont disagree with you, i am just thinking that i can get away with it.
