If a boat does not have a motor oh and a back up kicker, I dont trust it.

Gee Dwight, You got some pretty good boat knowledge for an old retired wing maggot type.

Yeah Mike! But like I was tellin' Adey here, that all comes from the many Summers of my youth when I was bein' dragged behind them there boats while standin' on a plank of wood and holdin' onto a rope for dear life!

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I've had boats for the last 37 years... I have one now. There are just like any other mechanical device. It takes regular maintenance and upkeep. Take care of it and it will take care of you.

Oh and repeating another earlier tip... check to make sure the plug is in "before" you launch!

ABSOLUTELY on the drain plug. But just in case have a 1-2 gallon bucket on board as part of your reguler gear, like life jackets, horn, fire extinguisher (or 2), moring lines, flashlight, radio, duct tape, bailing wire, an assortment of hose clamps, nylon tie straps, anchor w/ enough line for the area your in, flare pistol, red flag, signal mirror, some tools, etc.
And just to help out, have a check list for: leaving the house, getting ready to launch, after launch. and end of the day check-offs to make sure everything is secured for the trip home.
As side from now needing a bigger boat to haul all that stuff, for real entertainment just take a lawn chair and a cooler of your favorite beverage and sit a busy launching ramp then watch how many devorces get started, cars/trucks getting launched with their boats (PARKING BRAKE), or see the boats float out to "sea" because they forgot the bow line.....

I'm speeding because I have to get there before I forget where I was going.

Hey Marty! Works best in the spring or early summer when the "newbees" get their first boat.

Yep, that was a funny post there, Woody.

'Cause, yep, I've see that all happen at the launch ramps, too...though I think you forgot to mention watching the newbies taking 6, 7, 8 or more attempts at backing their boat trailers straight down the ramp. That was also a lot of fun to watch too!

(...unless, of course, you happen to be in line behind them to launch YOUR boat...then that's not so funny!)

That's were the devorce part comes in. The wife driving (backing the boat down he ramp) and hubby directing (?) her. Or, visa-versa - either way they end up yelling at each other as they jack-knife the trailer in the middle of the ramp.

Down side is that they REALLY get MAD when they see you laughing your azz off at them!

I swing by the marina ramp on my bike sometimes. I stop for a few minutes to watch them come out of the water, admiring the smooth curves, glistening with water, often stripped to the bare essentials, tanned and golden... wait a minute, are we still talking boats?
