Remove the pillion, the saddle, then the harness cover on top of the airbox. Then the top snorkel holder. Walla!

Your dealer is an idiot... or at least the person that made that comment to you. Do what Moe said and its under your seat.

Rear wheel? Side cover? Where does this disinformation come from? Anyway... it's SUPER EASY to do and glad you chimed in here to clear things up!

The punk you talked to thought you had a standard Bonneville, i.e. a T-100. 220 clams is not a bad price if you can trust the stealership enough to get his head out of his ass long enough to do the job.

IHaving done the valves on my America recently myself I am skeptical about some of the quoted prices for this at dealerships. It cost me $90.00 for the new shims required and that was under the o.e price. I strongly suspect that if a clearance is on the max or min limit or slightly over the cam cover is going straight back on. The price of a new cam seal alone here in OZ is $50.00 if damaged. If new shims required ask for the originals back as can be reused at next adjustment. If you have the time, manual and a good torque wrench and some mechanical knowledge do it yourself. Maybe I am just a untrusting SOB but have spent quite a few years in the mechanical field and some of what goes on leaves a lot to be desired.

The only thing I can add is to make sure you re-connect the wiring harness getting to the filter BEFORE you start it. If you forget, you will get a check engine light (CEL) when you start it.

Re-connect it, and it will eventually clear itself after a few running cycles.

On the the Bonnie varients ( Bonneville, Thruxton, Scrambler, etc.) the air filter is behind the left side cover. On the America/Speedy it is under the seat.

Everybody (including the manual) says Step 1. Take the seat off. What bolt hold the seat on?

The one behind the seat. May be a screw instead of a bolt.

I took that one off. It still won't pull off. I was afraid I'd break it.

You must have a gunfighter saddle. I believe those use a key that when turned, pulls a wire to disengage the saddle from a German, WWI Imperial Helmet Spike on your rear fender.

If you have the regular saddle without a pillion, the bolt is a 12mm. If you have the pillion that bolt is an 8mm. Take the pillion off then you can get to the 12mm saddle bolt.

What he meant is that IF you have a gunfighter seat there is a loop on the left side (clutch side) that you pull on to release the seat from the spike.

I guess I'm too familiar with the Corbin Version of the gunfighter. That's due to the englishyankee Greg! The corbins use a key, thus they are lockable.
