I have a pair of Triumph stock mirrors that have some damage and I have decided to strip the chrome off the mirror shafts and will be prepping them for a paint job of matte black while keeping the heads chrome. So far in the stripping process I have ground it down to a multichromatic rough variation of the chrome which I think is about as far as I would like to get down to in order to apply the primer and then the matte black. Have I gone down far enough or do I need to grind more?

multichromatic rough variation??? ummm got a pic?

As long as it is rough up the primer will stick. Any imperfections will show through if thats what you mean. Can give a nice effect though.

You can reverse the chroming process by immersing the chromed item in a medium strength solution of muriatic acid and clipping one battery charger lead to the item and the other to the side of a metal container . If I remember , you want the anode to be the vessel and the cathode the item . I used to do this to strip plating off of various items . Go easy on low amps and test it first , it's been a LONG time .
