Sounds exactly like a couple of the guys at work and my father-in-law too. Let's see, he's had his Harley for about 2 or 3 months maybe. That wasn't bad...thanks.

It would be more funny if so much of it were not true. My brother-in-law just spent $32,000 for a new H/D Trike, plus all of the bad ass H/D leathers. Then he had new exhaust installed because it did not sound Harley enough, now the pipes were stupid loud and he had to boost the watts on his onboard stereo to hear over the pipes which resulted in everything being too loud so he had to by bluetooth head sets for him and my sister to hear each other (as she sat 4 inches behind him). Go freaking figure.
Ride like you mean it.

We all like to think of ourselves as rugged individualists. But when push comes to shove most of us are sheep who do what we are told. Worst of all, a lot of us become unpaid agents of whoever is controlling the agenda by enforcing the current dogma on the few rugged individualists who actually exist.

I rode home behind a guy that would only wave to harleys. Followed him for about 20 miles on my lowly trumpet waving like a crazed fool to ALL my fellow insane two wheelers.

The funny thing about this from experience is that the Harley rider you followed may be riding the first motorcyle he has ever owned and then for not for very long. Some but not all HOG groups discourage involvement with riders from other marques. As a former dark side rider I used to love walking over to the nearest Suzuki owner to exchange the time of day just to piss them off. Then again conformity has never been my strong suit!!!

Free thinking, (almost lost in today's propaganda driven conformity)... a trait necessary for the advancement of a planet. I remember ramblings of such ways back in my yute, when a hippie was either killed, or remained to make a difference.
This line of thinking might have something to do with the fact that just yesterday I watched and listened to a 2009 video of CSN doing, "Almost Cut My Hair!" My hair's now short, but not my propensity for 'going my own way!'

On my last club run I stopped for petrol and passed the time of day with a couple on an MZ....always had a respect for these bikes and riders + it bothered some of my 'bros' so that was an added bonus

I have never met such rude ass people as you guys have. Never has a Harley rider ever disrespected me, and none of the guys I ride with would be so pointlessly arrogant. I only have one other triumph rider friend, the rest ride Harleys.

Speaking of waving, I took out the new toy, KLR, the other day. Now, normally, when I'm riding my TBA probably half, maybe more, or the Harley riders will wave back. When I was on the KLR, and keep in mind I'm in a motorcycle Mecca with tons of bikes on the road, zero Harley riders waved back. Probably passed 50 of them while I was out. They might not all wave back at a Triumph but they'd rather die than wave back at a dual sport.

Sometimes I think there can be a sense of snobbery from some riders and I'm afraid I find many HD riders are guilty of it- maybe its a UK thing but it can be a case of "I've got a Harley therefore I've 'made it and therefore I'm too cool to acknowlege you' Other bike riders do the same thing to a lesser extent-like they're constantly checking our their perceived 'status' against those they meet on the road There's some seriously Sad Sad people out there I'm afraid

Well this can all be readily explained, Chet. Ya see, whereas your Triumph's appearance coming straight on from the opposite direction MIGHT appear to be a Harley-Davidson, especially if you still have the metal shrouds on your forks, and ALSO considering that those exhaust headers sticking out from your Triumph's Vertical-Twin engine might resemble crash bars sticking out from it to some unsuspecting Harley rider coming that opposite direction too, BUT your Dual-Sport motorcycle could NEVER in a million years be mistaken for a Harley-Davidson to those coming in the opposite direction.
(...and soooooo...so much for the idea that most Harley riders "don't care what you're ridin' as long as you're ridin'", EH?!....CHAD!!!!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

I'm with locopony...Bikers in Texas almost always have this "low wave" we do to each other.... everyone!, no mater what they're riding. We aren't an exclusionary state As for making a choice.... I already have both!

Well, that's cool, Mitch! Though I suppose I should've already suspected this. I mean Chad HAS mentioned around here more than a few times that "Texas is God's Country"!...right Chad?! (...though I have to admit, here in Arizona whenever I pull up behind a line of slow movin' Harley riders out there on the road, it seems to me that those Harley riders around here are inclined to NOT wave at those riding anything other than big chromey cruisers comin' the opposite direction....though, I could me mistaken about that, but I doubt it...yep, it seems to me that these AZ Harley riders around here are a little less inclined to take their left hand off their handlebars and acknowledge those folks ridin' sportbikes and dual-sport bikes comin' in that opposite direction, alright...but "maybe" that's just here in Arizona, huh?!...oh, and evidently back there in North Carolina TOO...well, at LEAST according to Chet here, anyway!)

HD riders wave to me daily. I joined a local riders club whose members ride both Japanese sport bikes and H-Ds. Mine's the only Triumph I've seen. I hate to sound arrogant, but these riders are mostly interested in meeting up at Hooters and getting $h1t faced. Otherwise I know of no one here who rides a Triumph, but the Harley riders seem to be like everybody else here too.

Well then, maybe it's all that "Texas Influence" down that-a-way that accounts for all that, Steve.
I mean, your states ARE right next door to each other, aren't they?!

In my experience Texas drivers are particularly pleasant on the roadways. It's the only place I've ever ridden where it was the norm for slower drivers to pull onto the shoulder to let faster traffic pass (I do). Dwight, I think you are exactly right. No way do you mistake that KLR for a cruiser. I'm having fun with it, but it will never replace my TBA. As for the, "I've got a Harley therefore I've 'made it' and therefore I'm too cool to acknowlege you" thing, if parking $5000 worth of chrome on a bike you paid $15,000 for in front of your POS $2000 trailer represents having 'made it', I hope I never do.

I was once heading out of town when I passed a bunch of Outlaws heading into to town, imagine my surprise when their leader nodded and waved and passed an admiring glance at my bike. Naturally, I was happy to return the wave

Really, the subject here is... courtesy.
"To wave, or not to wave: that is the question: Whether 'tis nobler in the mind to suffer The slings and arrows of outrageous gynormous Harleys and Gold Wings, Or to take arms against a sea of as*&$#@, And by waving end them? To pass, unnoticed: to greet my fellow motorsickleists no more; and by a wave to say we end The heart-ache and the thousand natural shocks That flesh is heir to when we ride our precious horses...."
ok, so S-pear is ROLLHAO....
I love good riders, I hate bad ones. I'm respectful of other bikers on the road and hate it when they misbehave. That's a bad mark for us all.
As to the OP's original question.... well, I love anything with a motor and two wheels. If I was a'foot, a scooter or a Moped would make me smile like a guy who'd just had a go at a 20 year old.
I never met a "motorsickle" I didn't like. Never....

Uh... Dwight. Ya got it! (according to me anyway) Sometimes, on the high side of a curve, I "don't" wave cuz.... I'm not Steve McQueen. Ain't nobody Steve; but Steve. Speaking of rides, I dig the funky mustard color... and yes, I'd happily ride this!
