Sounds high to me. I pay less than $100 for a valve adjustment, then what's left? Oil change, carb adjustment, check tire pressure. Is yours EFI? Maybe they need to plug something in? They don't do anything you can't do with some assistance from the forum. I only pay to have valves adjusted because I don't want to screw it up, and do the rest myself.

It seems like that was what I paid for my initial 600 mile service.

That sounds like a pretty good price to me unless you mean "Valve Adjusment Check"

That seems high. Unless he had to do all the shims and pull the cams. That would be about 300 of it.

Shop rate is $75 or so an hour, one hour to check, more to replace shims as needed. Don't think I ever paid more than $130 for it when shims needed to be swapped.

The valve adjustment isn't that hard to do either.

My dealer charged me about $130 to adjust the valves, only. I suppose the oil change, including oil, would have added another 100. At $600, I think you're getting ripped off.

Most reputable workshops will supply a written itemised breakdown of what was done to your bike- valve shims replaced, sizes etc etc. You are quite within your rights to ask for this and all parts replaced especially the shims as can be used again. Plugs can be kept as spares in case of breakdown etc. If they baulk at supplying this info and parts I would be looking for another dealer or getting a workshop manual.

If I had a shop close to me that would do the valves for $130 I would let them do just to save the hassle.

The mechanic went over everything with me and offered me a look at all replaced filters and parts. Valves checked and were in spec., had to replace rear brake pads, all filters and oil, adj and lube chain, tire pressure and labor . I think I did alright. My 600 and 6000 mile checks were around $135.

tuff to shake a stick at anything less than two c notes. Last time a stealership adjusted my valves, five where outside specs after they performed the service. (That stealership is out of bee knees now and have been out for years) Wish I had a local mechanic on a level to be expected for this service. I used to but as it is Triumph corporate took Paul Runion and his charming wife away up to Newnan.
