I just hope they keep them elegant and beautiful. Some other lines would be nice bring back a real scout, and a bike designed for women would be great. Hope it don't smell like rice.
I have no faith in human perfectability. I think that human exertion will have no appreciable effect upon humanity. Man is now only more active - not more happy - nor more wise, than he was 6000 years ago.

Yeah, they had a Spirit AND a Scout in addition to the Chief. The Scout fenders were a bit more bobbed than the Spirit.

So Kevin, in essence what you're sayin' is that THIS (take your pick) "Keyboard Captain of Industry" or "Armchair Quarterback" HERE was NOT wrong AFTER ALL, and the Gilroy plant DID in fact make a Scout, and said Scout DID have more bobbed fenders than did their Chief model, RIGHT?!
(...that's good, 'cause now I STILL haven't been wrong all year, huh?!)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Yes you were right. My mention of the Spirit was in addition to yours of the Scout. I seem to think the Scout was the cheapest of the three.

Thinking about it, it's a shame the Gilroy plant didn't make it (for all the reasons we do or don't know). Had it succeeded, Indian would probably have had a pretty strong following by now. What heritage.

Yep Thanassis. Once again, I think their(the Gilroy-based enterprise) failure had that familiar ring to it...the lack of deep pockets in order to continue their R&D and get past the initial hiccups these kinds of ventures inevitably run into. It was the same with Kenny Dreer's failed attempt at reviving the Norton brand.
Now, I just wonder how deep Stuart Garner's pockets run, because there certainly seems to be some kind of major hiccups involved right now with his Norton revival plans. Those beauties were supposed to be available to the public over a year and a half ago, and yet still there's pretty much just a handful supposedly out there on the road.
And, once again, as we know, much of the reason Triumph has become successful was primarily due to John Bloor's VERY deep pockets, because it took him over a decade to get into The Black on the ledger board with his Triumph venture.

They might have made it had they not gotten a reputation for problematic machines, too.

I wouldn't say exactly the same. The Indian boys had a facility up and running putting out bikes for a few years, with Dreer it sounded more like a shop. What also struck me as ominous (I remember commenting on that at the time) was when Dreer started asking for deposits up front. These would have soon been converted into ... donations, as it later is evident.
