When your rolling down I59 headed through down town Houston. It starts to rain when a F250 pulling a trailer hydro planes 50 yard ahead. Cars begin breaking all around you, and changing lanes without checking their mirrors. Now facing down a truck headed at you in your lane. You move over to the far right of the lane because you can go no farther. So your on wet pavement and inches from the car beside your staring at the grill of a truck, and he manages to take the truck over toward the shoulder. Missing you by maybe 10 or 15 feet.

I grew up there, visit a couple of times a year. The freeways are bad enough in a truck, I'd be terrified on a bike. People change lanes with scant inches to spare.

I'd hate to have to deal with that kind of traffic. That's why I moved away from Denver.

Yea Keith the traffic is more stress than its worth some times. I do however like having access to everything in a matter of a short trip. Sadly that short trip could kill ya.
That was one of the scariest rides I have ever been on. I don't know why but I'm a bit sore this mornin

"A miss is as good as a mile", comes to mind here, Chad. However, yeah. A miss by ONLY some 10 to 15 feet would definitely grab anyone's attention, alright!

(...glad to hear you're okay)

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

Gut wrenching, I been there. Sometimes, I think we're all crazy riding bikes at all....And sometimes, I tell myself I'm gonna cut way back...., but I never do.

Uh huh. I hear ya, Chet. And thus one of the main reasons I moved away from L.A.

(...otherwise known as "Houston without the humidity"!!!)

Well, Dwight they'll not shoot ya but with the number of those who are here without proper paper work including drivers license. You can never be sure who knows the law, and who do not. You can also never be sure if one of those sociopathic youths aren up there, and going to cut you off because it will hurt his pride to let someone slide by. Even though motorcycles are never the cause of traffic jams.

A lucky save there Chad. A very scary one in the wet - that really limits your maneuverability options. I need wake up calls (slow down calls) every so often. Thanks.

Cheers, Richard
