Folks: What are my options to do a big bore on this bike. Is machining, etc (i.e. something I can't do on the kitchen table)required?

I'm at best an average mechanic, but I'm not opposed to doing anything. I've done plenty of work on bikes in the past and have access to folks more qualified than myself should I get in over my head. Honestly, I'd look forward to the challenge, though I must admit I'm ignorant on the work involved. Which I suppose begs the stupid question: do the kits come with instruction? Also, what other work is required if you go to a BB kit, new cam, clutch, etc?

I'm only thinking about the 904 kits out there, nothing to drastic. Any advice on manufacturers or your experience doing the work or with the results much appreciated.

TIA

john

To the best of my knowledge the 904 kit requires the existing sleeves to be pressed out of the barrels (jugs).

Machining the jugs to the correct tolerances.

Pressing in the new sleeves.

Not a kitchen table job.

A lot of guys on this forum have done the big bore so advice won't be a problem.

D&D in Pensacola has the kit that comes with barrels already bored out so you don't have to press in your own liners.
Overall price is very comparable to kit + machine work.

here is a very good read on BB kits and how it's done.. web page he is a member/mod on the forum..and a will help any way he can ..and you can do the BB kitt were every you want
you leave the motor right in the bike..for the 904 kit..

you don't say were you live..maybe some other member close by had it done .and could give you info on were to take you heads & jugs for the work needed to get all you can out of the 904 BB kit..

Thanks all for the input.

Ed, yep, thanks much. It always amazes me that we've got guys like Pat out there that not only work, and ride, but do this kind of work, AND take the time to share so much knowledge with the rest of us. They make the internet a great resource for sure.

I'm in Central Ohio BTW, guess I need to update my bio info.

while I save my money I'll take any input on a shop in ohio the can do some of this machining. Pat, I may need to come back and ask you about jetting sizes. You and I have the same but otherwise minus the big bore kit. Thanks.
