I have noticed that my TBA is struggling to run smooth in the 3-3.5K rpm. Even after warm up she runs very rough but only in this rpm range. Any thoughts?

How many miles?

Rough as in rich stumble, lean hesitation, or spark cut-out?

All the time or intermittent?

If you are talking about a some high frequency vibration, they all seem to vibrate a bit at that particular RPM. Try balancing the carbs. Worked for me.

Thanks - Rough as in hesitation. It was mostly when cold and still seems mostly when cold but sometimes even 15-30 minutes into a ride. No vibration. It is a lag or like it is cutting out, once accelerated through that RPM, she runs normal at 3500+ and from idle to 3000.

I have 24,000 miles and changed out the plugs about 6 months ago. The lag was there before and after the plug change out.

Presuming that the slides are not hanging up, & there are no vacuum leaks (such as cracked squirrel condoms) & the slide diaphrams are not cracked, then I suggest trying 1 shim on the needles...is yours a 790 with stock needles?

Yes. It is a 790 with stock needles. Thanks for the suggestion on shims.

I had a big flat spot around 3-3500rpm and this site recommended TBS needles. It seems to be a very similar problem to yours. I put them in and it runs like a champ now. You can read more about it HERE. Definetly balance your carbs though!
Cudos to Dinqua!

I will try the needles and the balance. I will have to go to the dealership for a balance as I dont think I can do that one. The needles I may be able to do myself.

dont underestimate yourself. Balancing them is pretty simple just need a synch tool. You could make one as some people have done or buy one. TOOL. and then theres plenty of support here on the site or HERE .
Itll pay for itself the first time you use it. Good luck.

has the bike always struggled at this rev range?
if not maybe a carb sync is in order, maybe even some crap in the working of 1 of the carb's
