I'm glad to see you picked a direction.

Are you doing a custom exhaust? Because I wouldn't mind dibs on the blacked out header pipes.

yea, going custom every!!! I am selling my ceramic coated bub pipes and headers, however I will need a set of stock headers as an exchange.. I need to cut off the outlet flanges and build a exhaust.. if you want the pipes just shoot me a message.

yea,, LOL.. I moved out of my house with a garage and i'm looking for a new house right now. I can't do any heavy welding here, so I tack everything, then I'll do all my final welding at work...

didn't see anything in the association handbook about not building a bike on the back balcony.

got alot of updates to post... seat all tacked on, rear fender mounts tacked in, headlight on in mock up postion as well as handle bars, etc....

i hope to have this thing in roller form by next week. i'll be doing all my final welding at my buddies place, then it's off to powercoat and then wiring... goal is to have this thing done before aug.

got the readtail leather seat mounted ( everything tacked in place) also huge thanks to bigmikeolley.. he covered it for basically free. )

biltwell front seat mount... ( now I know why it's 50$.. thing is beefy as hell )

starting to mount rear fender

lower fender mount

3 hrs later everything seems to be lining up..

fender struts next!!!

i think i''m being too anal on this. I spent 2 hrs with a dial caliper trying to get the rear fender exactly centered, down to less than 1mm of devation... it took me all day and I feel like I lost valuable time..

still waiting on my axle spacers, rear rim is at powdercoat, got my whiskey throttle and custom rear sprocket today, hopefully this thing will be a roller next week... goal is to finish before aug 6.. ( 31st bday)

No such thing as wasted time. If you hadn't got it just right, it would have been screaming at you every time you looked at it.

I hate that! I have rushed a job here and there (that I ended up re-doing over the following winter in most cases) and the bikes looked good and no one else saw the imperfection but it bugged the hell outa me every time I went to ride it.

I know it can be cured with a 'blasting' prior to powdercoating but the rust on the new frame (probably from bare hands) would annoy me to death.
Just a bit of an oil-wipe after any work would stop it.

If you plan on painting the frame, getting any oil on it at all is a very bad idea for adhesion.

Not true John, I have built numerous tube-chassis race cars and we always kept them rust free during construction with a thin-oil wipe. The chassis' were always dipped in de-greaser prior to powder-coating. The acid from your hands is the main culprit and thin cotton gloves were always worn when possible.
That said, chro-moly, our preferred tubing is more rust resistant than mild steel.

yea, the surface rust doesn't bother me one bit.. here in south florida it's hard to fight the rust. no worries as the frame is getting powdercoated and they blast the hell out of it before hand.

I don't like applying oil to the frame since i'm welding on it.

i'll try and get some pics up tommorow. been really sick and dragging ass all week..

made some more progress on the bike...

checking the center line and getting everything nice

fab kevin rear brake setup.. also fabbed the rear brake stay tab

made the rear fender strut.. ( just tacked for right now..) i'm very pleased the way they turned out. used a 3ft pole to bend the 1/2 rod in a vice... for once everything went right and there damn near indentical on both side.. I also got to radius the rear fender just right.

and here on as a roller.. I was curious to see it with both wheels on.. the bike is long, low and mean. should be a blast to drive. the angle of th pic give the bike a funny look.. ( looks much better in person)

Looks great man, IMO you need a tank that sits lower on the frame, but thats just my taste. Bike is awesome though, I'm jealous.
