Always park facing uphill, then neutral, gas, switch.. my left hand just goes to those automagically. Never used the kill switch. I have had to shove bikes backwards uphill, hence the up-facing parking.. lots easier to coast down. If it's steep enough to slide back against the kickstand I find a better place to park.
