Good afternoon folks,
I really could use some help. I live in GTMO and I am in need of a HUGE favor from a fellow "T" owner. I need a new positive battery cable end for my bike. Of couse any dealership I contacted wanted to sell me a $580 wiring harness, boneheads! Are there no Rube Goldbergs out there any more? The eyelet broke off my cable and I have removed the rest of the crimped end and I really would appreciate it if someone could procure me a new crimped end eyelet that fits the cable. Please let me know if would be inclined to help.
R, Trumpy

Brother I appreciate your help! I think the size ,that will work is a 6x1/4 and I do know a 10-12 Gauge is too small. The original eyelet was a crimpable high temp, nickel coated. I had a guy send an end with a new battery, but it was a solder style that I couldn't crimp unlike the original. I don't have the luxury of solder equipment.
My address is:
Mark Penrod PSC 1005, Box 37 FPO, AE 09593
Please let me know what it's worth. I know what it's worth to me!! Again thanks a bunch!

Soldering would be better , but if you have to crimp it , try to find some anti-oxidant i.e. dielectric grease .

When I was there(3+yrs ago) the NEX had a basic iron and it came with some flux. have you checked the corner in the back right with the tools? If not there are some cheepones at Wally World I can get and shoot to you there.(its a good tool box addition to boot)

Hey Beamer, Yes, I have checked the outhouse, er NEX. They have zero solder or flux. I do have rosin core solder (old as dirt, and the rosin is pretty much leached out) an iron, 1400 watt, but it simply doesn't get the fitting hot enough to solder, I have tried. I have a perfectly new, copper ring type 4/0 solder fitting, and can't get the tools to utilize it. I have tried to crimp it, but simple crimper pliers won't do the job, too stiff. I left my small butane torch in my major tool box which of course is in storage.

OK, please bear with me, as I'm a little slow. GTMO is a Naval base, isn't it? No motorpool, or engineering dept.? Where do they get the parts for the subs, ships, hummers, trucks.......from? Just wondering, Uncle Charlie

UC, In the past you would have been correct. Today this base is a prison, not a full functioning naval Station. Ships get some logistical support (food, parts flown in, etc) and that is about it. We get a scant few gray hulls in here anymore, but most of the visitors are Coasties. The only freight system we have here is USPS, but the armed forces use mostly a private chartered air craft for the needs. And that's all I have say about that (ala Forrest)!
