Anyone set up the luggage rack without the backrest? I did that on my wife's bike (to mount a top box) and wondering if it was safe to do that since there is a gap between the bracket that attaches to the bike and the luggage rack where the back rest went. It's tight, so I don't think it's going anywhere, but wondering if there is a spacer or something I need to get?

I used spacers and it works fine with my topbox.

I've used it without the backrest for the last 2 years on touring trips and had no problems

I think spacers would be a good idea so you can bolt it up tight.

Y'all realize that when Triumph sells the luggage rack without the sissy bar it's the exact same parts but they include four spacers, right?

With my first tall sissybar I found some 3/8" rectangular spacers and drilled holes in the centers. Ran the luggage rack for a while without the backrest. I'll see if I can dig them up and shoot a pic.

No, 'cause I know I'm bad!  Exact same gets to me from my grandfather used to drum it into my head since it is so commonly used. Not so much on here but when highly educated people do on TV it really drives me nuts. That isn't to say there are not both smart and educated people on here too, I know there are , and smarter than I.

It should be exactly the same in order for it to be grammatically correct. In this case the word is a modifier that stresses the identical comparison of one item with another. Alternately, one could say precisely the same in order to demonstrate the condition.
Note also that educated and smart aren't necessarily things that go hand-in-hand.
