There is a slight difference between my bike and karens bike in regards to header position at the slip on point.

Best way to get a new pipe on is to mount teh hanger but leave it loose, slip the pipe on and alight (I aligned the pipe tips and distance from the bike to the pipe), tighten hanger to pipe, check alignment, tighten hanger to bike, check alignment then finally tighten pipe clamp (you did put those on before all that right!
