Well, I just got back from Daytona bike week yesterday and I have to say it is a good time, overwhelming but good. I'll have to go back again to see the things I missed this time around.
I have to say thanks for several members on this site for the enourmous amount of help they gave me while down there. I'll explain.
Thursday was the Triumph ride to St. Augustine and Greg (EnglishYankee) and I were headed to the meeting spot when My clutch cable broke a bloke and a half from the parking lot. Leaving my bike in the lot of a Denny's Greg gave me a ride over to see if the Triumph guys were there so I could get a phone number to the local dealer, not being there yet he gave me a ride over to the Demo trucks to see if they were there. During this time Ron (Fishercat) calls to find out and says he'll talk to them when they arrive at the meeting spot.
About half an hour goes by with no luck and I've spoken to Ryan (Ryan7771) by now and he has offerd to put my bike up somewhere at the track or his offices and give me his car tomorrow so I can drive to a dealer that will have a cable.
Greg and I ride back to the meeting spot where Ron, Ryan and now Phil (bonnyusa) are now waiting. The Triumph ride has just left and all four members are willing to pass on it so that I can get some help. I convince them that everything is alright since I will just have it towed back to the motel and I would hate for them to miss the ride.
While waiting at the Denny's Phil calls me and during his ride out he's been thinking of a solution for a replacement. He's called Jim (Moe) who has a replacement. Perfect everything is great, I can relax now.
The next day we get a call from Moe and it turns out that his clutch cable is frayed but he'll bring it anyways just in case. So after trying to repair the damaged cable at shop and that not working Phil gives me a ride over to a Honda dealership which has a reasonably close alternative, helps me install it and I'm back on the road. All the while getting calls from Ron to make sure I'm okay while he's headed home.
I've met these people personally only a few times yet they were concerned, willing to help and change plans so that I wouldn't be left on my own.
Not too many friends understand when I talk about this site with the love I feel for it. This is a perfect example why I come here, yes I get part numbers, yes I learn how to work on my bike but it's the members here that make this site what it is. A special place unlike any I've been on before.
Thank you to Phil, Greg, Ryan, Moe, and Ron. The help that you gave can be returned but the feelings of friendship I will for all time always strive to match.
John

I'm glad that you got to experience it first hand, and that it helped you out in a time of need. This site feels like belonging to AAA, even if you never need to use it, it is a good feeling that if you do, help is there. TR

Good job Florida! Glad to see Wojo was taken care of.
So...which Honda had the close enough cable? Might come in handy to know that if one of us is on a long trip and there isn't a Triumph dealer around, but a Honda shop is close by.

True enough, As fate would have it when I suffered the major blow-out 3 days later in a remote Idaho location SpeedRacer (Roger & Sue), patiently saw me through until I was safely back on the road to motorcycle recovery . By my count I owe the order 2 good deeds. JH

I can relate. I come here for the company- getting the info is a bonus.
I'm glad you made it back home safe and that things worked out for you.
