There was a post a few months back with someone wanting to do the same with his barn/workshop. Not sure how he got on. I did say then ,that you can get padlock alarms which are cheap and easy to fit . When moved or tampered with it goes of with alot of noise . Should put a few people of.Go to Amazon and put in "alarm padlocks " They have alot there over here so would think also over your side.Worth having a look and you can get one till you get a more permanent alarm.
