Larryshep posted a mod years ago about cutting down the ends of the heel-toe shifter to give more room on the pegs or boards for your left foot.

I never went through with it. Though I have no boards, I have 73k now and love that heel-toe shifter, never trying to stick a toe under it, either. It takes some practice and a little finesse, but I think anybody would really, really like it if they gave it a chance.
