My daily coffee ritual is almost identical to yours Keith. The grind (conical burr grinder), the plunger and the thermos - enjoyed black. The only differences are I make twice the volume/strength and I like freshly roasted Nicaraguan Maragogipe beans which are 3 times the size of regular beans, dark rich with chocolate overtones.
I rarely like buying a cup of coffee at coffee shops because they usually have no idea how to make a black coffee. They burn the grounds and the taste of cheap or just average beans they use always comes through with a black coffee - (the flavour, bitterness or burntness is usually masked by milk and other additives so most people don't notice).
