I thought I had seen some discussion about the center stand from British Customs, but can't find any now. Has anyone bought one? Regrets or gotchas?? 270$ is a little steep to shell out w/o asking about it. http://www.british-customs.com/triumph-america-speedmaster-centerstand.html

And, word is Steve, that the Norman Hyde center...err...I suppose 'cause they're made in Blighty, that would be "centRE" stands, huh?! , are a little less costly and tend to ground a little less in left-hand sweepers than do the Rivco units.

You're right, Dwight... that stand from Norman Hyde is a centre stand. Well actually, all of those stands are centre stands here in Canada and many OTHER places of the earth. But setting linguistic differences aside, the NH stand appears to be better value over the RIVCO model. I'm also wondering if it's less susceptible to left hand dragging.
Live to love, love to live.

I've already confirmed that directly with Norman Hyde. No draggy.

I bought a 2nd hand Rivco stand from a fellow BA.com reader a while ago. It was easy to fit and I've got nothing but praise for the quality and it certainly appears strong enough for a bike of TBA or Speedie proportions. It comes with a webbing strap to grab & haul the bike up onto the stand but I have found by grabbing the rear fender rack is just as convenient for the same job. I haven't managed to grind out the centre-stand yet but then again I'm a pretty passive rider. Centre stands make for very convenient & easy chain servicing but one interesting thing about the stand was that when I went to remove the rear wheel for a tyre change, the Rivco stand was not high enough for the rear wheel to clear the guard. I would be interested if any readers are able to remove a wheel from a standard rear fender using the Norman Hyde stand?

So....has anyone actually bought and used the Norman Hyde stand? I'm too mean with my cash to buy one and then find it reduces ground clearance.......I'm sure Messers Hyde will say it doesnt but I'd prefer to hear it from The People Anyone know for sure?

I've been thinking about this thread for the past two weeks, and think that I'll probably commit to buying the Hyde Centre Stand. A member on another Triumph forum says that his Rivco center stand grinds pavement in only moderately aggressive turns so I have this fear that the stand will catch on something in the road and send me sailing over the handlebars.

Thanks, JQ. The Rivco stand IS a bit pricey. Perhaps I should find out how much the Norman Hyde stand will cost with shipping before I make any decisions.
Right now I'm waiting to hear back from Dunnspeed about having one of his slick solo seats made before I prioritize my spending.

You might want to keep an eye on the "Classified" section of our BA.com Steven. That's where I picked my 2nd hand Rivco up from a fellow BA member for less than half the advertised new price. A lick of paint and no-one could tell it is a re-born accessory.

I've progressed beyond somewhat pleased to very favorably impressed with my Norman Hyde Centre Stand. Left turns need to be pretty hard over (you'll be scraping pipes) to have the stand hit pavement. Not difficult to heft the bike up and holding steady on the stand for servicing (great for chain lubes and in sliding walnuts under a moving rear wheel to crack the shells), then safely and easily sliding the bike back down again.
All in all, aftre careful consideration of othre options, I recommend the Norman Hyde Centre Stand ovre any othre centre stand currently available.
John

(...howevre John, shouldn't the spelling of "consideration" up there actually be "considreation"...at least just for the sake of continuity, anyway?!!!!)

Actually, I wasn't sure if "e" always has to follow "r" and wondered (now that's a conundrum--e-r-e--right in a row--what the heck do you do then?) about "considreation" but thought it might confuse more than help because of similarly-constructed words like "recreation".
I vote for just doing the r/e swap when it appears on the end of a word, and it's optional based on one's geographical location, linguistic heritage and personal whim.
John

^ Thanks, John, for your endorsement of the Hyde stand. I just heard from Chris Dunn that he's ready to start on my seat, so I'll be putting off the centre stand for a month or two.
Although my wife and I have lived down here for >20 years, she still has family in the Baltimore area — I grew up in DC but left when I got drafted in 1965. Are you in the Balto-Wash area?
