I have seen a lot of posts about the America/Speedmaster fork lock not working. They work, but in their own way.
Insert the key and turn it about 1/8 turn anti-clockwise. Move the fork slightly off the left stop, push in on the key and turn it back clockwise.
To unlock it, same thing except let the lock pop out. (might have to pull gently on the key if the lock needs to be relubricated).

I've never had a chance to use mine... when I bought the bike the key was missing.

Where was this post last month!?!

I was cussing and swearing thinking my lock was broke. I had just bought my bike from the guy and was trying to figure it out and it wouldn't work. I came awfully close to bending the key to try and get it to lock. Then I took a few deep breaths and decided to take some of the weight off the lock by moving the bars and it worked! I felt like such an idiot!!

Most people, myself included, never use it I think. Every once in a while, I take some light oil (like 3 in one) and lubricate the cylinder and mechanism. Just in case I want to use it.

the cover on mine was too stiff to move, so I've never even tried to lock it

Never use mine. I don't even use a disc clamp anymore. If they want steal it none of that will stop them. They just better hope I don't catch them in the act.

Tried mine when it was new, said the heII with it. I never use it. never used it on my previous 2 bikes either.

I would probably forget to undo it and end up on my A$$!

Same here. I probably would use it occasionally if I could.

We have fork locks? Jk, I'm with roadworthy. I can barely get mine open.

The make and type of fork lock used on these bikes is one of those olde worlde traditional Triumph features we all know and love(Erm)
I guess those of us familiar with old brit bikes would work it out.
Have to say I hadnt had a british bike since the late seventies but the action with the key was pure instinct.

Which is still not to say its any good or even fit for purpose- one swift tug will snap the bleeder off in the stem.
so why use it at all?
Ah, tradition.

The whole idea is to make it more convenient to steal the honda down the block than my bike.

The thieves can just place a skateboard under the front tire and push it away, or so I have heard from a cop I know.

The '49 I had years ago had a built in security system. There was so much oil on the frame after a long ride that it was too slippery for thieves to pick it up.

Ya know none of my previous Triumps had working fork locks as they we mostly ground up restorations...I never put one in any of em. When I got my 07 BA I tried the lock but it didn't work. I'll try this little trick...just in case I ever feel the need to secure the scoot with more than my Rotweiller and .357!

The non-integrated fork lock has probably caused more bikes to be dropped in the parking lot than any other brain freeze. Nasty surprise if you forget.

I very rarely ever use my fork lock (it does work). I have a disc lock, but haven't used it in more than 3 years. With my bike being over 9 years old I am not really worried about someone stealing it. Plus if they really wanted to steal the bike a fork lock or even disc lock won't stop them. It might slow them down but only for a little bit.

2 guys could pick this bike up and slip it into the back of a van before you could say "oh crap, there go's my bike" and be gone. i knew a guy once and that is how he got parts for the h.d.s he worked on. so i always try to keep her in sight when i am someplace that makes me nervous. other than that there is not much you can do. if some thief wants it, its gone.

Yep! Just like a good Single Malt Scotch, you might call me "an acquired taste" TOO.(among the many OTHER things you may care to call me, of course)

A friend of mine once told me he witnessed two guys picking up his Honda 750 and putting it in the back of a pickup. I asked him what he did. He said "two guys PICKED UP my Honda. I wasn't about do a damn thing about it."
